I suggest you first check PB74 tech thread first... wink

Scooter, my idea was that you put me down as confirmed and I just reconfirm when the game fills up and we are looking at a concrete start date. (which might be imminent)

Ljub, how nice of you to offer mischief What if I play the opening being fully responsible for everything in the beginning, and you dedlurk with the idea that you could take over at some point when PB75 is finished?

With thrawn and Magic Science, we have enough players, so I'd be happy to deadlurk with someone instead (as I might have periods in time upcoming where I'd be happy not having to play daily)

Magic Science, if you like me to be your deadlurker, I'd be happy to

I'm usually up for playing according to instructions as well.
Playing: PB74
Played: PB58 - PB59 - PB62 - PB66 - PB67
Dedlurked: PB56 (Amicalola) - PB72 (Greenline)
Maps: PB60 - PB61 - PB63 - PB68 - PB70 - PB73 - PB76

Appears we have our 5! The list is.

1) Superdeath + Naufragar
2) Gavagai
3) Dreylin
4) Magic Science
5) Thrawn

Seems like GT/Ljub may be joining as ded-lurkers in some capacity.

1) Despite being an events disliker, I would loosely suggest playing with them on, maybe even doubled. I think thematically it fits the game. However, this is totally optional and can be left to a vote.

2) Picking method can also be left to players. I would loosely suggest a draft because it makes it easy to compensate for turn order given sequential, however a random block of options + rerolls fits this game well, so I think this can be left to players. A blind pick ranked choice with ties going off turn order could be a good option here too.

3) I assume this is a Sequential Pitboss given that it's 5 players, but if folks prefer Simultaneous it really does not matter.

I would suggest next you all lock in which way you'd like these settings to go. If Sequential, think about play order as well. I can soon spin up a subforum and provide starting screenshots sometime in the next 2-4 days, though I wouldn't post them until these last few settings are all locked. After that I may need a little more time to wrap up the map - primarily to solicit and incorporate feedback from a couple folks.

Events - no preferrence

Picking - some sort of random seems to fit with the unpredictability of the theme, though if a non-random method is preferred I may do some of my own randomisation in-thread.

I'd generally prefer the flexibility of Simultaneous since I have high availability 4 days per week, but I do also have a predictable play window the other 3 so could go sequential. If we have the capability to switch from one to the other I think that would probably be the best solution, but I don't know how much of Ramk's gap we've been able to plug.

8:30-10pm US Central are my core play hours (Tues-Thurs). I should reliably hit the start of that window, can often get to it up to a couple of hours earlier and can go a bit later if needed. Mon & Fri I wfh so am pretty flexible and am often available on weekends.

hmmmm. maaaaybe. i do not know if i am the best person to rely on eventually taking over, as i really cannot do so without messing up my life until PB75 is over and

PB75 spoilers

unfortunately, despite my doomerism in this and other threads, i think there is still a lot of uncertainty about PB75's end date. i thought there was a good chance that ginger could wrap things up quickly, and they still might... but the 3-way dogpile vs superdeath in the west complicates things as it seems likely to create a second juggernaut in naufragar, who does not strike me as the kind of person to concede to a player they are ahead of in city count without a fight.... so i now rate "endgame confrontation between ottoman and american superpowers" as a bit more likely than "ottoman runaway" and that is a scenario in which zululand could live on as a piece in proxy conflicts for a loooong time... so if i'm not taking over until PB75 ends you might still be signing up for an 100+ turn commitment depending on how things shake out
i also usually like to take breaks between RB games but as you can tell from my vagueposting here and in greenline's civ6 game thread i am potentially willing to make an exception this time...

anyways regardless of my exact role you can definitely count me in as a dedlurker in some capacity - just unsure of how much turnplaying i can commit to and how soon i'd be able to start doing so

also, while we're on the subject, thrawn, do you have an opinion on simultaneous vs sequential?

more pb75 spoilers

calling your attention to this specifically as i now think simultaneous turns is the biggest difference between civ4 and civ6 MP, and that weighing the mechanical benefits of moving in a certain position in the turn order in wartime (which are more significant in 4 than in 6 imo) vs the social consequences of being seen as having played timer games stands out to me as the civ4 feature most likely to drive you nuts lol

time constraints are a reason I don't want to play.
But I will read and I think I could offer semi wise advice for someone.
