Yeah, there is an effective numerical limit on how strong a unit can be in power calculations and such, beyond which the game crashes. So it's either that, or a buggy item power. Let's hope it's the latter.

Yes, unit could be end up too strong and crash the game in precombat and combat phase. So if you cheat, do it with golden mean.

I used the Create Artifact spell with Plate Mail +4 Defense, Mystic Power, Sacred, Colossal Power and a Trinket with +2 Movement, Pandora Box, Healing Aura, and Binder. But when I made a Plate Mail +4 Defence, +2 Resistance, +6 Health, and Binder, also with a trinket with +2 Movement, Pandora's Box, and Egoism, and it worked fine. So I'm guessing it's the Colossal Power and Mystic Power are the issue.

Colossal Power, yes. But I don't think Mystic Power is an issue. I think bigger issue for you is Sacred as it give bonus of Destiny without its down side (Double attack and HP, +4 defense and resistance).
But then how could you create artifact with both Sacred and Binder? Both power requires 7 books of Life and Sorcery each. Not to mentioned Colossal Power (5 nature books)

Performance of 1.5.3.7 is really, really bad for me. I tried it on 2 different computers, with same results. For example the pause after moving the last unit, until the end of turn button is available. Also the mouse cursor inside the city is laggy. Unmodded Caster of Magic works fine.

Wait for next version in 2 weeks, it has significant performance update (Anskiy could be witness as he test it right now). If you have trouble with current performance you should step back to parallel version of 1.5.2.7 that significantly faster than version 1.5.3 but some feature would missing, save game is fully compatible.
