Game is live! Clearly Thrawn noticed before I was able to post.

Mod is CtH 5.0.0 and is named as above, though it is functionally identical to PB74 (other than differently named folder and .ini). So do make sure you set this up properly or you'll get yelled at upon joining.
Finally, please double and triple check your techs, leader, and civ. I did many checks myself, but it helps to make sure.

Oh also, this is obvious, but please do feel free to change your capital names. Just had a little fun with them.

Getting a version mismatch warning that the game files don't match the host and it gets stuck loading. What could be causing this?

Most likely an errant file or folder in your mod installation.

Techs, leader, and civ are correct for me.
I think the server URL given on the PBSPY page is incorrect. The given URL is "pb.zulan.net:3086" which got me a time out error. Then I used "pb.zulan.net.3078" and I got to the game.
No Unit Gifting is not On in the game.
The server gave me more warnings on the civilization select screen than it did in Pitboss 74, but everything worked fine anyway, so that is probably unimportant.

Reinstalled and the warning went away but the game still gets stuck loading after I choose civ and type password.
Edit: after trying a number of things finally managed to log in with context isolation though still don't know what the cause is.

These sound like incorrectly installed mods. For Thrawn, ensure your mod is still installed properly after reinstalling. All the usual things - NOT in MyGames, instead in the /BtS/Mods folder, not double nested within that, etc.
For MS (and likely the original problem for Thrawn), make sure you have the full original CtH from the link I provided. For example, if you simply copied your RB74 folder and renamed it, the .ini filename will be mismatched in the mod root and throw warnings at you.

You are right that I had just renamed the PB74 but starting it with your link actually says that the mod differs from the server and the PB74 doesn't give that warning.
Trying it the problem reappeared. Now can't log in even with the sandboxing

I think I've found the problem. The CtH download above has a file called "update_info.json" in it. Remove that, and you'll match Zulan's server. I think he must have done a copy of RB74 but DID change the names, and that file appears to be the only difference. It's not necessary here. I tested just now, and this resolved the warnings from a fresh download of CtH.

This fixed the mismatch error but still having the loading problem. Sounds exactly like this one from PB59.
