lol i didn't know either.... i tried a few NA starts and just KEPT researching mysticism instead and having to reroll
i think i like your settling order.... get the capital food sharing up ASAP so you can shift the cap over to other food sources (or whip) and the new city can work food on turn 1. re tech path, i am not sure which should come first of AH vs archery.... archery gets better tiles online but you have to wait for them, AH gets you sheep immediately and i think it's a fair bet we have horse at one of the first two cities too (since there is literally only one other eligible tile on the island that is NOT at one of the first two cities ) plus if we do AH first and the horse IS at the one tile not in range (2S-1SW of the capital) we have time to move the second city to grab it, whereas we might not if we do archery first....
actually, if we're settling corn city first, maybe we should move it 1S onto the silk anyways? we do waste the silk tile but that doesn't matter until calendar (which might as well be never ) and we can start working the deer much sooner. fish/deer spot looks like the lowest priority on our island as of now (especially with no food in the first ring...), and tbh i expect there will be offshore sites nearby that are stronger than it as well, so we might end up delaying it a LONG time.... would be a shame to have the deer offline for that long
one more kind of odd thought.... not sure if this is right but, what if we settle ON the rice? this wastes the rice, but maybe not really - we get a 3f city center tile (i think? is this right?) and dry rice is awful until civil service anyways.... not to mention irrigating over to it would kill 3 tiles that we are almost certainly going to want to have mature towns on by that point. and in exchange we get another clam, a better tile than rice anyways, at what looks like our strongest candidate for rushing moai statues....

Not opposed to moving the corn city 1S. I like that idea. Settling ON rice... hmm. It loses out on working those future mines+MOAI? I find it highly likely that that northern clam has to be claimed by an island city anyway.
I think we see where Copper ends up popping, and maybe decide on AH/Archery from there?

well, those mines are in range of the capital anyways, so unless we're building a forge or other hammer multiplier in the moai city but NOT the capital, moving them to the moai city shouldn't actually add to our troop production.... but if we move the city north we get to add a moai hammer on 2 more coast tiles than we otherwise would have.
yeah, agree that it would probably mess up a future island city to steal its clam though. not really sure i'd actually settle on rice myself, just putting it our there as an option. especially if we find that there is so much seafood around that the city at that clam is low-priority, in which case getting it all claimed and worked ASAP might be the better snowball play
re copper and tech path, sounds good to me!
any updates? :D or are we still pretty much in the "have our scout sit uselessly on a fully explored island" phase lol

Gambled on the copper showing up on the only bare hill we had..
It ended up spawning in a spot we are only getting BECAUSE we are settling on the silk. Boo.

What about moving clam-silver-marble 2N (and add one later 1S)?

burning a grassland tile is real meh if it can be avoided.

also we'd lose out on silver access for a LONG time.... i don't think we want to found a city that only adds silver/marble before one that adds actual food resources, if we can avoid it, and on an islands map i suspect food sources should be pretty abundant. but if we have like 10-15 spots available that all come with their own food, we'd then be delaying the silver happy until probably well past when we would want to start using it... and it's nice to get those chops in the south online quickly too, though that's a somewhat lesser consideration i think
hmm well. copper location is a little disappointing, yeah, but it least it strengthens a city site we were already going to prioritize instead of making us make actual hard tradeoffs. deer + fish + copper + lighthouse lake + sharing capital food is honestly really strong, almost capital quality. plus if there is a horse on our island now it is guaranteed to be at one of the first two cities (i think?) outside of any mapmaker shenanignans

Aight. Where to settle first. Im assuming on the silk is the best option, but open to suggestions.

yeah, i think i agree on the silk - there just isn't any other spot that adds as many strong early-game resources. i'd be worried it's too slow with no extra food in first ring but it can just take the capital corn to whip the totem pole
eta for the settler?
