[SPOLIERS] TT and Ilios - PBEM 10

Ok TT i had look ingame yesterday, looking mighty fine!

So size 2 in 1 turn, warrior in 2.

Can I suggest you don't finish the warrior build, but instead move straight to the second worker when the capital hits size 2? In the (unlikely) event a rival warrior pops into view, you'd still be able to finish it in 1 turn.

Second tile to work at the capital initially should be the grass furs ofcourse.
Pig pasture finishes with 16/40 into worker, so will unfortunately not be able to finish worker #2 a turn earlier (worker will be at 38/40 four turns after start build).

Then we'll need to decide whether we want to start a settler at size 3, or if we want to wait till size 4.

Agree on the worker switch from warrior, so has been done and save passed on - warrior should be defogging again in the next turn or two

Sweet, this will also throw off those pesky demo-lookers on the opposing teams smile

Since our island seems to be triangle shaped, maybe we should build or theme around that? I've checked wiki, and those Chinese Triads have some pretty cool names.

Also, did you notice there is an unfogged part of the map east of our lands, showing floodplains and silver?

I don't know how far the turns have gone, but I think it might be a good idea to move the first worker (after finishing the Pasture on the Pigs) 2 NW on the northernmost grasshill and start mining. That way it can work its way south in time to build a road to the settling site together with the second worker. The second worker can improve the Horse, in time for the capital to hit size 3.

Which site are you planning on founding first?

Sorry for not updating daily but not much to say.

In terms of the first worker, I moved him to the horse a couple of turns ago and should complete the pasture next turn.

Worker 2 completed as well so I will send him to start mining next turn.

Here is a complete picture of all our discovered land.

Plenty of resources indeed!

In terms of settling, here is another attempt at dotmapping our land.

That is a lot of cities but they can all be decent sizes with the amount of food resources that can be shared.

In terms of settling, I want to settle Brown Dot first. It is on a plains hill, will be able to work the improved wheat straight away due to the culture of the capital and it is coastal so we can build boats to perhaps get Circumnavigation bonus or at least explore the other landmass. It also has plenty of hills for production and would be a great Maoi city IMO. With its production capability - I also think it would be perfect for building a quick Great Lighthouse and hopefully colossus. Those wonders will be very very handy on this map I think!

After that, I would like to settle Yellow Dot on the other landmass. The cities on the mainland are solid, but there isn't much commerce potential so we need to hook up those gems for valuable happiness and commerce. I also wager that there will be other nicer cities on the other landmass than on our home Island.

Let me know your thoughts

Ok here are my initial thought:

If the capital has popped borders by the time Brown dot has finished its work boat, then I think it has merit as a second city. We just have to make sure the wheat is improved by the time the city is founded, and I'd like us to have a road connection as well, to increase our commerce output.

I think we had pegged Hunting as our next tech, followed by Pottery. It might be a better idea to slot in Fishing before Pottery. (or even Fishing before Hunting, I'd need to a look ingame and start on a microplan to check if we'll get Fishing tech in time for Brown dot's founding) That way the new city can start on a work boat right away, and we'll get a discount once we head for Pottery. I think two work boats from the outset might work well, with one used for exploration, and the second one to net the Fish. (I'm tempted to send a third, sending them both in different directions, to have a shot at the circumnavigation bonus)

As for Yellow dot, while i'm convinced of it's worth, I think delaying it won't harm us much. Don't forget we'll need Iron Working to mine the Gems, and with the overlap of Brown and White dot, we might reconsider to a spot further north or east. Most of our new cities will have commerce potential anyway, post-Sailing and a Lighthouse, and we already have access to two Happiness resources.

As for the southern dots, we'll need to see what our warrior uncovers in the south east. At the moment you'll miss out on the Fish resource in the south east, so it might be better to move Green dot, 2 or 3W, so we can plant a decent city in the south east.

To be honest, I don't think we have a shot at the Great Lighthouse. I'd need to check the demographics, but there are probably people out there who have a sea-based capital, and let's not forget Serdoa has IND to help him out. You can be sure everyone will go for the wonder, so it might be better not to sink any hammer in a wonder we'll fail to get. With a little luck, we can just grab the wonder from a happless neighbour... smile
And with everyone going for the Lighthouse, we could concentrate on getting the Colossus? (Oracle Slingshot into Metal Casting?)

That way we can skip Sailing for the time being, and instead head for Myst > Poly > Priesthood.

I was also thinking we won't need Axe/Spearmen in the near future, so I suggest we don't connect our copper so we can keep producing warriors for MP purposes. Chariots should be sufficient to handle any barbs, but I'm sure there won't be a lot of those on the Home Island.

Anyway, let me know what you think, if you want we can discuss it via chat on of these days.

PS: If you're not too busy, could you send me another save?

Ok then, decision time is now upon us!

Settler 1 has completed at the end of today's turn and will start on its way to Brown dot if you are in agreement.

Fishing completed and the Capital's border will pop next turn covering the fish for brown dot. The wheat is also improved so it should grow up quite quickly.

I'm really against skipping Sailing, as the land across the water looks highly profitable and the metal will likely be on that landmass too.

I shall send you latest save again now, and if you want to chat send me a time and I shall endeavour to be there!

Sorry its been a little while between updates but there wasn't much to discuss.

Now there is!

Found a nice quick settler out of the capital and now to decide where to put him next turn!

I think (looking at last dotmap) that red dot is probably best as we obviously cannot settle yellow dot yet.

Noone has landed Hinduism yet so we may have a shot at it if we are lucky. Oracle plan still going strong.

Hey there TT!

Fully agree with Red dot as next site.

Two workers for three cities is stretching things a bit, so I'd grow cap to size 4 asap (maybe even stealing the Wheat tile from the second city for a turn) and then quickly crank out two more workers (whip first overflow in second?).

I can see you're at 90% research. This early in the game binary research should work better, no?

Don't forget we need Pottery to take MC with the Oracle, and we really should find Copper if we want to build the Colossus cheaply.

Keeping fingers crossed for Hinduism!

Glad you agree on city placement.

We actually have 3 workers at the moment - two are together on the hill W of Capital to finish mine quicker and be in position to help at red dot as soon as possible.

Will switch to binary as soon as Poly comes in.
