[PB79] Giraflorens & Magic Science -- "Fear+Curiosity Gazpacho"

T127 - T128

Miro has whipped 6 cities in last turn, as PBSPY says.  And his power graph keeps up.  I put to make axes in the southern islands and a galley is taking a Axe and a Mission to Diomede.
Our first Cata is done and going to the Barb city. 2 more catas are building.  Now it has 3 Archers and when I'll attack it will whip one more at least. This and the 50% defense power will make it a little bit hard to conquer.  I have 2 swords, 2 axes and 2 chariots. Likely not enough for 4 Archers defense.  I am making another Sword.  Anchorage is a machine of making units (1 per turn so far)
In 4 turns I will get the next GP, hopefully a GEngineer to obtain Machinery.  Now I'm researching Civil Service, so Maceman will be able soon.
Sorry, Magic, I don't have the ability to get that Barb worker, but I guess if I play well I can get the 2 workers when attacking the city.

Below the Tech Screen. Not many changes.

you are not in a hurry with that barb city. Could spend two turns of reducing defenses, if you are building kata anyways.
An archer attacking out would also be better than him defending a city wink

Also... he has 2 workers building useless mines but leaving the pigs unimproved? wow...

The problem of reducing defenses is that they can delete the workers.  From my little experience when you take more than 2 turns attacking a city it eliminates the workers.

A Barb archer came to the south of the Barb city and my Chariot died with 75% odds. Now I start to place all the attacker around de city and start to lower defenses. It will be 3 turns before all units are not in good place to attack.
In southern islands I am making units, barracks, and trirremes. I need 3 more turns to make crosbows (hopefully with a Great Engineer).
I put Juneau in Wealth state because the economy is getting very very low. I guess due to all the units out of borders going to the Barb city. And I will make two Missionaires in Fairbanks in a row, because one chopping. Also I whippped a library in Fort Yukon (Eastern city) to increase it culture.

The tech Screen shows that 2 have Machinery, and Monarchy and nobody civil service.  that makes me doubt about my tech path.
Miro's power graph is almost vertical

My god,  11 whips (or whippers, IDK how is it said) of Miro in last turn!  The first I did when logging in was to check if any war broke up. It seems not.  Miró send me a diplo screen for exchange Cows ???  I don't know the code of this messages. I keep making axes and catas and hopefully next turn I will have Machinery.

In the screenshot above you can see the Barb city situation.  Next turn I will have the 3 catas ready to attack.  Now an Archer when out from the city and I used a Sword to kill it. So far the odds of the Sword with promo of AttackCities II are 38%.

Did Miro offer the trade: you give Cows to him, and he gives Cows to you? Food resource for the same food resource trades like that (ex. Fish for Fish, Sheep for Sheep) mean peaceful intent. If Miro is telling the truth, then he does not plan to attack us now.
I think he plans to attack Ricketyclik. Cho-Ko-Nus vs. Praetorians.
But be careful. Make some units for the border with Miro.

I see that you are making the National Epic in Unalaska. Do you have an idea for the Heroic Epic and Moai Statues? Like Great People, the main thing with National Wonders is to not forget about them. Remember to build them somewhere.

Also, I will think of an Alaskan name for Cherokee. Are there any other places left to settle? Any places at all?

Cherokee is conquered.  I lost 2 catas and 1 chariot and I get the 2 workers on it.  Not bad. And the Swords are very well promoted.  Also one Axeman. I loose the Chariot with 65% odds trying to promote it.  I like Chariots with Healing promotion.  I destroyed the city and next turn I have a Settler to make one in the initial location.
About the GP:  we got a Great Merchant!!!!  No way to get the GEngineer. So Machinery must be researched. (3 players have it so it will be cheaper to research). I'll research it now.  So what should we do with the Great Merchand?  I am thinking about putting as specialist in Unalaska.  Other option is sending it to Miro for getting the coins.  (as far as  Miró does not attack us.  I can research Alphabet but it is a cheap tech no It is not worth.
Ah, and I put to make the national Epic in Ankorage, it will be the Units Industry.

Yes we need a name for the new Cherokee and other name for the Western Island (west of Nome).  See below

The western island city can be called Savoonga. That is the name of a town on St. Lawrence Island between Alaska and Russia.

For Cherokee, you could name its replacement "Tlingit". Cherokee is the name of a tribe, not a city, and Tlingit is also the name of a tribe, not a city. The Tlingits live in Southeast Alaska. They are famous for their totem poles and for having some serious fights with the Russian American Company.
If you want the name of a city for Cherokee, you could call it "Barrow". That is the other name for Utqiagvik.
Or "Kotzebue", another northern city.

Now for the gameplay.

Great Merchant: Do not settle him as a specialist. The specialist option for Great People is weak most of the time.
Do not bulb Alphabet. Alphabet is too cheap, you are right. You could save the Great Merchant for when a more expensive technology is available (ex. Banking). In BUG the bulb order is shown (as you can see), or see this page: LINK.
A Trade Mission to Miro's islands would be pretty safe and worth 1100 gold (500 + 200*3). That would be more beakers than a bulb and you can research what you want. If you choose this, let me know and I will help you do it safely. It is a tragedy for a Great Merchant to be killed.
You could save the Great Merchant to combine with another Great Person for another Golden Age. Unalaska will have a non-Great Merchant Great Person in about 13 turns. Do not work any Merchant specialists in Unalaska!
I say either Trade Mission or save for a Golden Age. Do we need the boost from the Great Merchant soon, or can we wait? Because a Trade Mission will happen sooner. Are there any good civics coming soon? Bureaucracy and Mercantilism, maybe?

I didn't realize that Coldrain had cut us off from Miro by land. Miro has no land connection to us. That is good news for now.

Miro has a lot of Galleys here. He could use them against Ricketclik, but it makes me worried that he could attack us too. We have nothing good to fight Cho-Ko-Nus with. Crossbows will work, but you should research Horseback Riding too.

P.S. I forgot to say: put some Espionage Points into Ricketyclik. We do not neighbor him, but it is important to see his graphs to understand what his neighbors will do. How much military does he have compared to Miro? That is important to know.

Oh... that sounds slightly familar. An old german name in alaska?

Looked it up and why not share it here.
Otto von Kotzebue was a baltic-german naval officer and expedition leader who wanted to explore the northwest passage in the early 19th century. (yeah, yet another one wink)
Approached via pacific and cruised the bering strait but were not able to sail into arctic waters.

One of the larger bays (or sound) were named after him and later the town of Qikiqtaġruk was renamed.
