Bing decided to make my decision easy
A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one
I ended up killing 9 units on defence, 5 catapults and 4 real attackers. Eyeballing it, hammer trade was about even? And I got a great general in the process, so can make a medic 3 for the next war
All in all, I'm not unhappy with the outcome
Quick question, if I make a scout medic 3, will it count for Heroic Epic unlock, or does it have to be a military unit?

Should count. It's a military unit. "Can't attack" is a modifier but it's not non-military like workers and settlers.
The requirement for HE is a level-4 unit, meaning the unit has to get enough experience and take the promotions.

Thanks! I'm debating between attaching the gg to a scout or a warrior - the benefit of the latter would be the option of a free upgrade to a real unit in an emergency
Of course, there's also an option of using it to give some ships navigation 2, but I think medic 3 and HE unlock is the main priority for the first GG. Kagoshima can build HE in 4 turns even without marble

Welp, looks like Scooter just called Superdeath's lack of units - I see Scooter capturing two cities, razing one, but maybe keeping the other? I thought they were as far away from each other as it gets on this map. Also, if I intervene, it will have to be on Scooter's side - as I said, I lack the ships to oppose Scooter right now. This sucks, because of how many of my trade routes were going to SD

Scooter merely sniped 2 SD's cities, they're back at peace. Not that it's a good thing, Scooter is now at 28 cities. I need to make serious gains with the samurai push
Civil Service is in, time to start whipping those courthouses with overflows into samurai

A fairly clear message - Scooter wants to attack SD together in 10 turns, once their current peace treaty expires
Interesting.... 10 turns works well for when I'll be ready to attack. Given that Scooter already is gearing up to attack SD, as indicated by his snipe of two cities and growing power graph, joining in on the attack may be the best option. If Scooter attacks alone, SD may be able to survive, but Scooter is likely to take over a significant number of cities, which could make his position unassailable. SD does have a fair few lightly defended cities right next to me. And Bing may be so far behind in tech at this point that an attack on him will remain an open option down the line
Really the only downside is that I will lose some international trade routes. But maybe Scooter will re-sign OB if we come to an agreement. And even if not, a switch to mercantilism / representation is not that far away
Going to sleep on it, but I'm inclined to take it

Could not find a good reason against, sent the offer back to Scooter. It is just too tempting when there are three cities I can hit on the first turn of the war, which are currently defended by archers
T166 is the turn

Just want to put this here
I've been getting messages like this from SD throughout the game. No timeline, no purpose, just "go declare war on the game leader with superior tech". Nothing to help influence my decision
Scooter's message clearly told me what the plan was, and I could figure out for myself if it would be beneficial to me. When it comes to attacking Scooter - as I said, attacking his lightly defended astro islands wouldn't be out of the question, even if I'm scared of privateers and he's not far from frigates. But I can't even tell if SD is on the same page
This is why I am taking Scooter's proposals, whereas SD's messages are largely ignored

Ok I really don't understand SD's diplo
That's every one of my cities listed in the "you offer" side
Is this a threat? Attack Scooter or I will attack you? Or what is it?

SD did whip a crossbow in every border city last turn, looks like he's definitely aware of the danger. Really this is another consequence of me delaying CoL as long as I did - everyone has research visibility on me and knows how close I am to samurai off galleons (except Scooter, we still haven't invested any EP in each other since we got each other's graphs). Admittedly it would be almost as clear from the tech screen
Bing sent a clam for clam which I reciprocated
