Yup.
I've played a few more games and it's actually a lot of fun once you grasp the tactics and limitations to your survivability. I still haven't found a hero I'm satisfied with but Taric turned out to be a great starting point for learning the game.

Here are two really good websites that offer character guides, so you can get some sort of idea how to build each character (the in-game "Recommended Items" are pretty bad:

http://www.leaguecraft.com
Personally, my three favorite characters are Shen, Garen, and Xin Zhao.

What I seem to find from my 5 or so games is that everyone at first is either far superior to you, or are pretty bad even compared to yourself. Just keep playing IMO. My last game was played better than my first game, and that trend seems to continue.
@Speaker: Those websites are awesome. Thanks for them.

Didn't take long before I realised the recommendation are all crap. However, I find that building the characters is fairly easy once you've tried them a few games and learned what items are available.

A single game playing Shen was enough to determine that I suck just as much as melee in this game as I do in all others.
Ryze is my clear favourite so far. A squishy hit-and-run caster is definitly my kind of style.

There are a ton of nuances once you dig deep, and figure out what order to build them in, what to buy each trip back to town, etc.

Shen is technically a "tank" and has a pretty good ranged attack with his "Q" skill. He's definitely a pretty unique character in the game!

Try Annie. She's like Ryze, only way better. And her toy bear's name is Tibbers.

Remember Speaker, when you're first starting out you're limited to whatever champs are free that week. Ryze is free this week, if I remember... Annie is free all the time though, so you can take a shot using her soon enough. Just don't go wasting your IP on buying runes until you hit Level 20; all the Tier I and Tier II runes are worthless. Yes, it's kind of a trap on the part of the designers to get you to waste your real-world money...
I should be online for a bit tomorrow morning (early Saturday EST), but otherwise I'll be visiting family this weekend for Labor Day. Please do stick around, and I'll see you next week.

Guys, I'm downloading the game now. I'm going by DavidCorperial, so hit me up in the game and any help you can give me would be appreciated.

Had this recommended a few times now, and seen some Basin folks playing it (while I was on Teamspeak). Not that I necessarily need another time & money sink... Oh well.
RolandDT - currently enjoying Sivir tremendously, and looking at a few others to unlock, as well. Bought Akali (she was on sale - 50% off), may have to buy Sivir. Haven't played anyone else yet, but I'm sure I will. Looking at a decent list that I hope to narrow down by reading up on their backgrounds and abilities.
Hope to see some of you online!

If you "Like" League of Legends on Facebook, you get a free Tristana skin, which automatically unlocks the Tristana character for you as well. So you can get 1 free character!

Interesting game, unfortunately I'm a tad too busy with Civ5 coming out to give it a try for now. But I'll keep it on my radar.
