Made a mistake.. and now im 9t away from astro rather than... like 2.
Anyway, i appear to be the only other one to be going for Astro. Bing and Yuri dont want to give up on their war. Cairo is/has been stacking defenders on OUR border despite me being friendly as hell the entire game, and Scooter has been running away with the game since t50.
He is going to have Frigates when i hit Galleons. He will have conquered me, before anyone else has galleons. Call the game already.

Some scooter Galleon's snooping around, and caravels scouting. (i really do hate that they can scout without open borders... really bad mechanic)

Lol. As if Scooter needed anymore of a boost to his winning-chances. 2 FLAWLESS losses. Had 3 caravels in range to kill his Galleon that he decided to move up (which is 100% loaded, he has no real reason to bring it up with his caravels scouting anyway) Lol. Yuri and Bing are still at war, Cairo still has a large defense force on our border and refuses to respond to any anti-scooter alliance. Scooter will be at nukes before anyone hits rifles. Beyond stupid.
Call the game.

Mass whipping defenses, and saving cash for emergency upgrades/a push for frigates.
No one apparently wants to stop Scooter (why is this game still going??) Cairo is getting galleys in position, and has game-long decided to have heightened defenses on our border. Bing is... just bad at the game. Yuri had probably the strongest potential, and then got into a war with Bing over who knows what. Dont know. Dont care. Ive asked everyone to stop trading/stop bickering and help vs scooter. Not even a gfys. I thought i would enjoy a water-based map, but really all that does is magnify any tech differences. No collateral for boats until late modern era. No way for the defender to actually defend/fight back. As soon as someone has the leg up, its basically curtains if people dont snap back to reality (ooop' there goes gravity)
At least with a land-based map, a defender can reasonably assume to smash a stack so long as they werent caught completely off guard. Ive done so multiple times vs people with a gen or even 2 gens of military tech ahead of me.
i was no more than roughly 10t behind scooter getting Galleons, and no one else other than maybe Yuri will get them before the game (should) be called.
I hate sounding like a negative nancy, but damn. He played a great game, and i think i was the only one to see him taking off and want to do anything/look forward to doing anything about him.

Yeah, this seems to be the crux of it. After the land grab, this game has been less interesting than one might have expected. Particularly since Astronomy and frigates are such narrow but dominant techs - nobody without those can attack anyone with.

Quite frankly, this is exactly what I expected. Early on, water gives such high barriers to conflict. Later those are removed, but if you give people a long period of peace it's hardly surprising for the economies to diverge significantly. Especially as water maps are not easy to play.

Yeah, and by the looks of things.. no one wants to even attempt a dogpile/alliance against scooter. i can already tell im going to be shackled to this game.

Day 58 of waiting for this game to be called. NO ONE has frigates other than Scooter. I believe i am the next closest and im still... 10-15t away? Providing i get the GE to spawn. WHO thinks they still have a shot? I dont want to keep playing this PB with no one other than scooter having a chance to win. Its really dumb.

I've been reading all the threads and I don't think there is enough of a critical mass of opinions to concede yet.

Feels like the gaming term "being held hostage". No one can touch him. NO ONE ELSE has frigates. I really wish some of these games had diplo so i could ask people WHAT they think is their chances.
In the future, island maps need to have more... Land to them. Being able to have a city or two in-between that isnt coastal. Having every-single city able to be smacked by a fleet, and naval warfare being a "hey, he got to astro first... GG" is really annoying. I feel Caravels 1. shouldnt be able to scout borders (plus when u declare war.. THEY STAY WHERE THEY ARE) 2. should be given a buff attack vs galleons. Enough to make it worth building vs just stacking defenses and praying.
