[PB79] Just one more Game

And now the automated Googletranslate on my code doesn't work and changes my formatting for the civforum icons - and screenshots.

Back to the automatic splitting and use of DeepL.

The turns were relatively boring.
Unfortunately, Miro sends the first SAMs to the front, so it's slowly becoming more difficult to get through with planes.
What's more, Medialolanum and the Republic of Rome are only 2 tiles away from each other, so although I had enough troops to tear down Medialanum, I can never prevent a counterattack.

Let's see, maybe something will change with nuclear weapons.

What do you notice?

Right, coldrain can now build nuclear missiles when Manhattan is standing.

I have to think about whether I want to risk the UN.
Emancipation would be problematic for me - if vassalage and theocracy are both removed, that too.

But the rest?
And the option of keeping the game “simple” and banning nuclear weapons ?
The [Image: Civ4GroPers.png] from Carthage will also be interesting. Trader will probably be used to bulb part of satellites. Priest (finally) builds the Buddha Shrine, an Engineer would probably speed up a smile Wonder.
An artist would probably found the KG - distribution costs ~300 [Image: Gold.png] (2 [Image: Gold.png] per [Image: Civ4Produktion.png]), I get ~10 [Image: Gold.png] per round from the KG - plus some [Image: Civ4Kultur.png]. RoI of 30 turns is still okay, I think.

A scientist at ~1% would probably be used with the remaining scientist for nuclear fission.

Only a spy would currently be “useless”. The trader is also unwanted, but bulbs something useful.

Research currently goes on nuclear fission - even if gold saving is on plastic.
After that there are 3 interesting targets.
1. jet fighters - without his own jet fighters, Miro can forget about air combat for now
2. modern armor
3. internet - still primary to keep this from others, but in the meantime I could also get a few techs from it. And on the way to modern armor.

And the next action.
Salem-8 will unfortunately change next turn, so I wanted to strike here now.
Lets how, how much Miro is willing to invest here.
After the cannons, I do think my tanks can attack (and win) twice.
Reply

Miro evacuates Salem.
I promptly lose the first tank.

Anyway, the city is then razed. I can't really hold a city on the island, but Miro should ideally lose direct access to the “Southern Sea”.
Otherwise to see that Miro takes refrigeration (sushi ?) and needs 4 turns for it.
I'll start the first rounds of nuclear fission now - probably 3 rounds for nuclear fission, then trigger the GS.

I think the nuclear non-proliferation vote could be over before Miro has the first nukes - but I'm not sure about coldrain. Manhattan is not there yet.
It's just a question of whether I really want to finish building the UN in 4 turns.

The [Image: Civ4GroPers.png] became an engineer.
And I just realized that long term planning is not always my strong point.
I can't build an iron works in Carthage.
So I currently only have 120 [Image: Civ4Produktion.png] per turn or 2/3 of a tank.

I think I should rush Rock'n'Roll with the engineer ?
Hollywood costs more, but is probably relatively exclusive to me since mass media is a dead end.

And just for fun
I currently have 8 [Image: mad_s.gif] due to the whip in Sexi.

I've also done the maths.
1 [Image: 5pop.png] brings just 101.25 [Image: Civ4Produktion.png] for units.
So I really have to be careful with the whip. I can easy get more than 40 base [Image: Civ4Produktion.png] with overflow and as such I can't whip my tanks for 2 [Image: 5pop.png].
Reply

Things are currently quiet on the military front.
I'm going to stop the nuclear fusion research again soon and then probably finish with the GW.

Gira on mass media ?!
Redentor is gone, so it's either UN or Hollywood - and Rock'n'Roll isn't on Gira yet.
I'll have to use my GI too.

UN is theoretically finsihed in Hadrumetum in 4 turns.
The Apo is dominated by Miro, unfortunately you can't get any numbers on votes for the UN at the moment.
Although that's also easy, [Image: 5pop.png] = votes, isn't it?

I can then also use the victory screen - population counts here [Image: 5pop.png], not the number in the demo, right ?
If so, the whole thing is surprisingly close. Everyone should have 25% of [Image: 5pop.png] ?
That would probably also make Gira my rival in the UN election, and thus probably also Chairman.
I think Miro would vote for Gira and I'm currently assuming that coldrain will abstain.

I have whipped too much to have a advantage from my 30 cities here - Miro too.
Reply

Miro puts some pressure with the fleet again.
Let's see what happens next. - Miro is also advancing in the north.

Otherwise, Miro has almost half of his tanks in Republic o Rome. - There are 61 units in total, not 60, I miscounted somewhere.

I myself have 75 tanks - I haven't included the tanks in Modagor in this stack.
27 from Lixus and 37 tanks unloaded from the ships.

One city less.

Counterattack will be interesting. Contrary to the first calculation, this unfortunately cannot be prevented. - Partly because I can't destroy the ruins and therefore the road underneath.
On the spur of the moment, it may not have been wise to add the remaining tanks as protection.

I also upgraded some infantry to SAMs against air strikes and placed them on the workshop behind the tanks.

Gira has completed Rock'n'Roll - to Broadway after Diomede.
I really don't like that, as this city exerts massive cultural pressure on two of my islands.
Gira wants me to conquer the city, doesn't he?

Otherwise I'll lose a few planes to the SAM.
There's not much you can do.
The bomber raids were probably wrong, I might have needed them for more railways.
Conversely, the bombers were actually enough - and there are actually too many workers, I miscounted at the beginning. More bombers would have been of little use.

In between, the fighters attacked from the aircraft carriers to increase the chances for the city attack 2 tanks, after the few city attack 3 tanks had no problems.

I had some luck in battle.
Only one tank loss. Although all battles were at 80% or more. Most 90%+
Nevertheless, 61:1 is very unlikely.

This is where the clean-up begins.

In the end, my 1st command tank collected two workers - at first I thought this would be enough to prevent a counterattack with 1 :4gesch: units.

In the end there were still a few losses, especially when I wanted to see what chances an attack on Mediolanum would have.
The fighters would be better than interceptors.

But I'm quite happy with the demo at the moment. Lets see how thats the case next turn after the expected counterattack.

In the worst case, the 37 tanks are within range.
And unfortunately Inf should not have such bad chances in the open field either.
After all, only 6 cannons, but ~40 planes, including ~8 bombers.

I have upgraded some infs to SAM to weaken the enemy planes, but...

And I think I still have to sacrifice a marine and demolish the railway on the hill.

And without Republic o Rome, I can certainly hope to flip Lixus-3-6 soon - I want to accelerate Hollywood into Lixus soon.

No reaction?
Too bad.

Before I look at the expected disaster, I'd like to say that I don't like the extra time for Miro.
Especially because Miro had already been in the game for half an hour. - Which is usually enough for me to make a move. Gira and Coldrain were in the game for less time together in the last round. Whereby the ‘problem’ is rather that Miro has now not only finished one more thing, but was in the game for another long time (3h !).
I know that's a bit hypocritical of me, because I've asked for similar things myself before in this game. But as far as I can remember, I always played shortly afterwards and I was either in the game for a few (less than five) minutes or I had played so far that I was ready to end my turn.

What also matters is the fact that the last time Miro asked for more time to think, he did the teleport.
Unfortunately, it's not forbidden in the rules of this game, but I still find it a bit unsavoury.
Although I still have to emphasise that I would almost certainly have cried foul if I hadn't been in the game for 5s after the 1st teleport (coldrain closes borders). I still can't really explain why Miros army did teleport 2 tile instead of 1.

The first 4 planes went to the 2 forward units.

6 cannons and then the first planes shot down.

Unfortunately, the bombers got through for the most part.
Miro is also slowly running out of chokos.

I still catch a few fighters...

But the tanks are wiped out.

No successes on my side

I got 2 real units ?

I lost 3 million power in the demo.
Unfortunately I don't have a comparison of Miro before the attack, so I can't directly quantify Miro's power losses.

In fact, the roads were also built slightly differently than expected ?

Here are the current research times for the remaining research construction with balanced research.

Internet currently takes 19 turns, modern armor are a little further away at 32 turns.
The next military technology would actually be advanced flight with 16 turns.

Spaceship still needs ~100 turns currently ?
Due to the war, my economic potential is not so good.
Culture wouldn't be that much faster at the moment. Currently ~70 turns ? But all potential culture cities are on the coast.

And here are the sharkfins.

Moving on.
coldrain has finished Manhattan, so I bulb fission.

But nuclear weapons are expensive.

As expected, Miro has discovered my attempt to raze a core city through coldrain's territory - marines are also relatively good against battle4 tanks.

So I withdraw the tanks.

Otherwise, as I said, I'll finish building the UN.

The hope is that I (or Gira) ban nukes. Eta would be ~7 turns, if I have the time between votes right in my head.
Ideally, I'll have a few myself by then and can pose a few problems for potential opponents. - But that should be enough for coldrain to build some himself. Miro, on the other hand, would probably have to whip them (~8 [Image: 5pop.png] ?)

Because I don't want to go through the drama with nuclear weapons - especially since they can be transported by attack submarines and I don't have a tile in my empire that can't be hit by missiles from submarines.

At least you can see land units, but you have to look for submarines.

In R286, I see that Miro has not elected himself pope.
I wanted to write something about this in the game thread.

Otherwise, Miro offers me another air battle.
I'm happy to accept, especially since I can isolate the planes in Ravenna.
It's also nice to be able to target unmodernized tiles with air bombardment.

I'm wondering why the planes on the carrier from the lake can't do that.
As soon as I moved the carriers into one of the forts, this was possible.

Result is okay. 10 planes shot down, 9 lost.
Plus experience, which doesn't bring that much, but still.

At the end I see that these 4 planes are still patrolling in Battleball.
I still have 11 undamaged planes.
Here I trade off 4 for 4.
Reply

I could already whip up the first nuclear missiles in T286. But 6 [Image: 5pop.png] are too much for me.

R287 then sees the vote for the UN Presidency.
As expected, Gira is my rival.
I vote for myself, of course.

So if the AI had its way, coldrain would vote for me and Miro would abstain.
And I'm impressed. I haven't seen -39 without nukes yet.

Otherwise, I find it interesting that no one can currently become Chairman Alone.
The [Image: 5pop.png] are very evenly distributed.
I'm currently at 27%, Gira at 26%, coldrain at 24% and Miro at 23%.

Miro and I have both whipped the cities into small size.

Otherwise, I welcome the first attack submarine to my fleet.
Not much use against this one, but as a transport and launcher for nuclear weapons?
An effective range of up to 13 tiles ?

And that brings us to T288 and the current status.
Miro offers me White Peace.

This is a very difficult decision for me.

Basically, I want peace. I think that if there is no more war, I should win. With further war - and further radical armor on my part - probably Gira.
Conversely, I don't want to be able to give Miro 10 turns of peace so that Miro can then get a first strike.
Especially since Miro started this war 40 turns ago, when Miro was still ahead in my eyes. With the loss of the Mining HQ, I think I'm ahead - or currently Gira.

Why shouldn't Miro start now after 10 turns? Especially since I think Miro will probably have the first nukes in 10 turns.
A nuclear strike is hard to prevent either way, but without peace I definitely get the first use of nuclear weapons.

If the nuclear weapons ban actually happens in 7-8 turns, you could think about peace. I don't fear a conventional invasion that much.

What are your plans regarding Gira and coldrain if you and Miro make peace?
