true, but a civ is a civ. I can't believe i'm trying to justify paying extra for a civ though. DLC is ridiculous, I shouldn't be having this discussion imo. Paying extra for like the OST or some other extra stuff is fine for collectors, but actually withholding actual ingame stuff so you can sell it for some extra money makes me mad. Especially when it's an entire civ. If it was just the map-pack i'd easily not pay the extra, but it's hard to decide now.
Though i probably will just wait for the demo and try it out myself first. Better to really know if the game will work well enough before shelling out the money on it and miss a civ, than buying the game in beforehand but then figuring out the game runs like crap.

(making the Babylonians only available to a deluxe pre-orders is awful, but there's nothing I can do about that)
Decisions, decisions. How long can you wait before the deluxe pre-order expires? Maybe I could wait until the demo is released, but iirc in the stream last night they said it wouldn't be released until the release day or something, so it would be useless for me if the deluxe edition isn't available anymore then.
The deluxe edition actually does not need to be preordered. The preorder bonus is just a map pack. Thus you can wait for the demo (day of release) and still get Babylon for the extra $10 if that's what you want to do.
I agree having critical extra stuff (a civ) in the deluxe edition is awful. We can only hope they release it separately later, too.

I have never bought a game from there, but IGN's site, Direct2Drive sweetens up the pot considerably for me.
For your $60, you get the Mesopotamia map pack, the new Nebuchanezar civ, and you get the first DLC pack for free when it comes out.
In addition, for someone like me who never owned it, it comes with a free copy of Civilization 3 Complete.

My computer is decently new, a year old right now, but i checked systemrequirementslab, and it said my CPU/CPU speed wasn't good enough. All my other specs (RAM, video card, etc) are above recommended level, but the site says my CPU isn't good enough. I asked around on a forum, and they said i should be fine, and the site was wrong, but i'm not convinced yet.

This is pretty handy when I'm trying to figure out if I can run a game. I'm actually under the minimum specs atm, but I'll buy first and upgrade then just in case

I'm still not sure if I should get the game or not. I would buy it instantly if it weren't for Steam. Until now, I have resisted to buy several games I originally really wanted to have because they required Steam. Civ 5 might be the first one to break me.
I have to do some research on the current state of Steam first. It's really hard to get reliable information out of the Steam fanboi vs. hater discussions on the forums. To me, the most critical question is: Does Steam install an application, service or driver on my system that will run in the background all the time (and probably connect to Steam servers), even if I don't play Civ 5? As a malware researcher, I'd get all sorts of nightmares if this is the case...

I can't say I researched this super well, but I'm fairly aware of security stuff. I have absolutely no problem with steam. As best I can tell, it does exactly what it promises, which is run (visibly) when asked, check steam servers for updates periodically, and do some sort of signature comparison to verify your your games are installed on the expected computer before letting you play them. I also think Valve seems to be run by some pretty good guys and they haven't done anything deserving of suspicion yet.

Does the advent of civ5 spell the end of the Civ4 events here at RB? Sullla? Griselda?

I hope not (at least in the short term). I still am not impressed enough by Civ 5 to buy it and besides that, I doubt I can run it on either of my computers.
I will still be playing Civ 4 for quite some time yet
