Ok fair enough.
Just keep in mind that most of our economy will come from our Colossus-powered water tiles, and cottages will take a while to match that yield
(2/0/3). (where the hell is copper?)
As for where to found, the western spot gives us security against land attacks, as it will be surrounded by river from the east and the south.
Meatbalz will never forgive us for setting him back a city, so we have to stay on our toes...
The eastern spot will have less overlap with Eridu, and can grab the Rice, and will miss the Peak Island.
Up to you to decide, since it's your baby!
Tech:
Have you thought about where to go next? I was thinking of picking up Monotheism for the discount to Monarchy, so we can double switch to OR and HR.

I still see no copper - so lets hope theres some iron nearby!
The problem with the eastern spot is that while it defends us from a land assault, it also hinders an attempt to attack out of the city by the same measure. With Aggressive troops, I doubt we will want to be passively defending if we can help it.
I think you are correct with the next tech path -> Organized religion would be a boon in the cities with less production and Hereditary Rule is always nice.
I think that I see Gilgamesh's borders on the NW landmass so I guess he is our other neighbour

Here's something to ponder.
Look what my workboat has discovered!!
A plains hill, surrounded by floodplains and a double silver mine.
Its a little bit far away, but the commerce that can net would surely cover the maintenance and then some! Its so tempting that I want to send a settler there now and claim it!
Talk me out of it Ilios, though I may still go for it for the sheer novelty and to make this game a bit more interesting (especially as I can build a Courthouse already!)

Screenshot seems to be blocked by the nazis at my work, but sounds very nice indeed.
Don't forget the nice looking lands were unfogged from the start for a reason, namely letting players become greedy!
I'm not worried about maintenance costs (Noble diff), but about overreach (getting greedy). A good comparison is Meatbalz' city. He got greedy and plopped a city down next to the Stone, without proper defenses or workers.
I'm not saying we would leave the city undefended, but even with two defenders (unlikely), say two galleys appear out of the fog and that city is toast.
Added to that are the lost worker and settler turns. You could have a new city (<cough> grey dot <cough>) up and running while you're still making your way with a settler and a Vulture to the spot you mention. Once you've unloaded the units, you need to turn back the Colonizer Express to pick up some worker/missionary to improve the city. (or you build another Galley)
So I guess all I'm saying is: "Don't get greedy!"
Also, could we spare a naval unit to meet Gilgamesh?

Ok guys, finally an update (plus a decision I may have to make which I want to run by Ilios)
Firstly here is our empire:
Colossus just completed in Eridu as you can see and I am about to settle where the settler is in place to work the improved Corn and Ivory, plus hopefully give enough culture to get a foothold on the north island should circumstances allow me to settle it.
The big issue is about meatbalz, he is really starting to irritate me.
He pretty much screwed me with Game's placement and then Probability is there too. he has rights on the stone site too but I am thinking of tearing up the whole agreement as it is doing me no good and I have been approached about a trade embargo on meatbalz with his Great Lighthouse by Cyneheard who is hopeful of agreement.
Its not an easy decision and I prefer to keep to agreements, but right now he's pushing it and I am not happy.
At the moment, my thinking is that if I can get a few Triremes and some HAs along with some security guarantees from Cyneheard & the others, I will break the agreement.
What do you think Ilios?

I'm not Ilios but as your friend, i figured i would comment.
Don't be silly. Has Meatbalz broken any agreement? What were the exact terms?
You don't make agreements then break them as soon as it doesn't suit you anymore. How is that different from breaking a NAP or similar?
It's your game and your reputation but consider yourself warned

Just saying you seem to be rather erratic - giving him generous terms, then raging against him for settling aggresively, something that is important in a multiplayer game.
This is multiplay, imo, you own what you have the forces to attack/defend. Anything else is up for discussion.
