Agreed. The line of Supply from Seifer's Yellow to the capital is plenty short, Barb archers don't exactly move quickly, and if we were feeling really uncomfortable, we could position units partway down the road as "fast" response. Being on the river and non-overlapping with the capital will pay off in the long term, IMO.
Reverend's Yellow is a strong idea. With irrigation spreading (Bureaucracy?) on the two grasslands adjacent to the corn (since we'll want to water that anyways) and the improved pigs, the city can sit at size 7 pumping military all day (I think I did my math right - Pigs are +4, 2 farms are +2, 2 grassland mines are -1 each, and 2 plains mines at -2 each, for a total of 3+3+4+4+1, 14 base hammers). [I know whipping is more efficient, but we could whip the plains mines away with double whips and that'll still give a base 6 hammers to work on while recovering from that unhappy]
I would found it as our third city if we go for the seal against the (Southern AI).

Don't you take my river awayyyyyyy!!
Seifer's map is pretty good, but Magenta is probably too far away to settle first.

So how about hitting TRD's yellow dot first, and using the chops get out a second quickly after which can travel down to magenta?

Because I'm not convinced that doing so is in our best interests. If we're going to expand east first, we have to make it a point to scout out that region more fully. We're assuming that TRD's Magenta will seize an AI's copper. We don't know. We don't know how close any of the AI are.
I still argue that the better stuff is west, and I'd rather give up mediocre-good stuff to the east for really great stuff to the west. River networks are where you get the commerce. TRD's yellow dot... that just screams "filler" to me. It has the pigs for food, yes. It is most likely going to be a production town, though, since it has the hills but no commerce tiles. The far-away Magenta does not appear to have a great deal of commerce potential, either. If we head east, I see us paying a lot for city maintenance without getting much income out of those cities.
I call for the people's of Korea to head west, young men and women! For once, I'm calling out "commerce, commerce, commerce!!" Put our trait to its best use.

I agree that westward land is significantly stronger, I was merely making my last suggestion for I had the impression the majority were wanting to go eastward instead.
I would like to go westward and claim Whosit's red and yellow dots for then we have copper and horses and a river network which means that we can get the resource in all the cities as soon as we get a road to yellow dot.

Well i would head west actually... and given my daring nature i would have headed for the flood plains + gold site first :P but copper site is safer obviously.

I would only dream of claiming the floodplains site after the copper has been secured and/or the horse. It needs defending.

I agree with Whosit that TRD's yellow site is no better than a 'filler' city as it stands. It will take a long time to grow (we're a long way off Civil Service) and without properly revealing tiles along the coast it may be better positioned if there's a seafood resource around there. I still think the pink site I suggested is stronger than Whosit is suggesting. Sure we'll probably see the most benefit out of our financial trait and spamming cottages along rivers, but this site can also host a few cottages easily with the sheep and wheat there for growth. We have done enough scouting to the east to be able to say this site blocks off the eastern continent after borders have popped, and this is it's greatest offer. I admit we would be taking more or a gamble by settling here, but as with most things in life, the bigger the risk the greater the reward. If we pull this off we'll no doubt be well off long-term. However if that is not at all convincing then at least take the yellow site I suggested (well Whosit did really) as a compromise. =)

Hmm.... well, if we plan wisely, we can take Magenta and defend it. Monarch Barbs aren't too bad so long as you have something better than a Warrior. I can throw together a fog-bust map quickly. It still makes me sad that we're off the river, though I understand why. Still. T_T
Edit: To cover either the spot to the west or the spot to the southeast, we'll need just one unit to fogbust. I've accounted for the fact that each tile under cultural control is counted as a unit for the purposes of fog-busting. Yellow dots are units, of course.

So are we going for Magenta first or not? I need to know before I play. Also what are we going to do to defend it?
