Apologies for my connection problems last night - it turns out my wife was talking to her friend on skype, which made life difficult for my poor, budget broadband connection.
In any case, I took out my frustrations later on some poor, unsuspecting noobs on the European server (where I'm still level 9). It was shocking to see how far I'd come in the time I've been playing, as I completely wiped the floor with everyone, going 12/0/1 in a 25 minute game, with twice as many minion kills as anyone else. :neenernee

You european timezoners, what are your IDs on the euro server? Mine is still Meciflorean.
Have tried most of the free champions from the last week and working through this week's list now. Lux is my favorite champion so far. Poppy and Sivir are also very fun to play. Anyhow, hope to see someone ingame soon.

I switched to NA at about lvl 4. You get +100 ping, but everything else works fine.
In any case, I had some time to play for the last weeks and I have a couple of questions for the more experienced players out there.
First of all, I sometimes use the boots of mobility so I do not need to get teleport to get around the map quickly. Movement 5 out of combat and 2 is decent or is it not? As I do not see anyone else do this, is it a move?
Right now I try to stick with the suggested items which has worked fine so far. After being criticed for going attack speed before attack damage with Ashe (Damage is always better?) I wondered, are they any good? At least Sheen (Blue Sword) with Sion makes sense, or does it?
I bought Ashe, Janna, Sion and Evelynn (yeah-yeah ). Upon googling you stumble upon a lot of builds but some are rather wacky. Any suggestions there?
I have some RPs left and I would like to add another champ to my mainstay. I got DPS, Carry, Melee and Stealth. Any suggestions on a 5th champ?
I have fallen into a habit of pushing the lane early on whilst I see many others just lasthitting for the gold. Is this a newb habit? You can get potshots on the turret this way after all.
Thanks for any kind soul above lvl 20 for input.

Do not use the suggested items. They are probably made by the same sort of people who made Civ5.
With Ashe, your three core items are Infinity Edge, Last Whisper, and Youmuu's Ghostblade.
Start with a Doran's Blade or Shield, rush your BF Sword, get boots (of swiftness usually on Ashe), finish your IE, Recurve Bow --> Last Whisper, Brutalizer --> Ghostblade. You may sneak in the Brutalizer at some earlier point, if so desired.
With Sion, your core items are Lich Bane and Zhonya's Ring. I usually start with a Doran's Ring, build a Sheen, get Merc Treads, build your Zhonya's, finish Lich Bane. After that, it would be situational. Either more AP or more magic and armor resists (your E skill should give you all the HP you need).
With any character, you should try to understand what their core two or three items are. Look at how their skills work, how they scale, and how the character should be played.

Buy some sort of tank. The best ones are Galio, Amumu, Shen, and Rammus. None of the rest are really worth playing at this point.

You do not want to push the lane because it makes it harder for you to harass your enemy, and leaves you more susceptible to being ganked. Ideally, you will keep the creep line a hair behind the river line, forcing your enemy to "overpush" a bit to get creep kills. Generally speaking, use your autoattack to last hit the creeps, and use your skills to harass the enemy.
I'm going to work on a basic guide for you guys. Now that many of you have gotten above level 20 or 25, and the competition is a lot stiffer, you need to drop some of the crutches (like 3 teleports on our team every game) and bad habits (overpushing lanes, chasing enemies blindly). The experienced players like myself and Mookie, who have been helping you all along, can't get 20+ kills against teams of all 25+ players, so it's time for you all to start carrying your weight!

Sad but true. I miss my pre-lvl 20 love Alistar. He just can't keep up.
I actually met a team with a jungle Alistar earlier today. Initial impression was something along the line of "wtf does that really work?". He actually did what a jungler is supposed to do: level in the jungle and gank the lanes. Just not very well. First time he showed up he was level 3 (everyone else was lvl 5+ or borderline) and tried to gank a lane. Ended up getting his lane mates killed and barely survived himself. Next he went for mid, and got killed. After that he came for my lane. We killed him, the person we were laning against, and then the tower. 2 players on his team rage quit and that was the end of that.

Its times like this, when you see something border line ridiculous and brilliant that you really need a replay feature. I wonder if that would have worked if he knew how to do it well.

I don't see him clearing the jungle fast enough with the abilities he has at his disposal to ever do that well. I'm sure enough about it to not even bother trying it out in a practise game.

Alistar would be a poor jungler and is not a viable character to have on your team.

That's too bad. The main thing that keeps me out of LoL besides the long games is that it seems to me (an outside observer) that LoL character builds aren't open ended because people figure out optimal buy orders so quickly for each of the 'good' characters. :[ I'm not sure how much truth there is to that since I don't see too much of the skill trees from Sullla's very nice videos.
Other than that it seems great fun.

Character builds aren't very open ended. The exception is if the enemy team does something stupid. So if their team is Ashe, Trist, Sivir, Miss Fortune, and Xin you probably want armor items on everyone and want them earlier.
However while characters builds aren't too open ended, there are many characters and they are very different. So if you're bored with Warwick and you switch to Anivia you should have a very different game.
