I have no favourite, and I almost always just choose random and choose my game plan that way, it can make me disadvantaged if I get a civ I don't like, but I seem to be a random person. I will occasionally use random.org to 'choose' a random map (script and size). I like to be surprised

I have played Hatty at the beginning of my Civ IV - playing, then I switched to Bismarck, tried out JC (just to try the Praetorian-rush-and-win once), and ended finally playing Gandhi. I've found he fits my playing style very well - I'm more a builder than a warmonger (that's one reason I'm struggling on Prince but can play good games with Gandhi now on Noble), and Industrious/Spiritual seems like a perfect combo for me. I have not tried any Financial leader yet, though it seems to be common opinion that they are easier to play especially on higher difficulties. Well, I will have to learn playing with different leaders - I'm sure Sirian will not pick Gandhi for most of the upcoming Adventures/Epics ![lol lol](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/lol.gif) ...

Come not to me again: but say to Athens,
Timon hath made his everlasting mansion
Upon the beached verge of the salt flood;
Who once a day with his embossed froth
The turbulent surge shall cover: thither come,
And let my grave-stone be your oracle.
Lips, let sour words go by and language end:
What is amiss plague and infection mend!
Graves only be men's works and death their gain!
Sun, hide thy beams! Timon hath done his reign.

I'm intrigued to know more about why people chose the way they do? like kubie?? really??
I ask b/c i'm in the process of going leader by leader, alphabetically; i'm stuck at Mao after getting one of my highest scores w/Mansa (which surprised the heck out of me). It's funny, too, b/'c you can DEFINTELY see an improvement from before reading RB stuff and after. I'm trying to up my level to Prince; that's me and Mao right now!

I'm exceedingly frustrating that you can't choose a straight random map with the game yet (not counting Tilted Axis).
Also, it seems like everytime i go random, i get a predictible select set of leaders ~ on a related note, it seems, too, that the AI leaders aren't very random, and i keep ending up with many of the same opponents...anybody else experiencing 'Random' problems??

@pholkhero:
Well, to me it seems that Kublai's Aggressive/Creative Combination is very interesting for (early) conquest ambitions. You get a free Combat I Promotion and don't have to care about Culture - Creative does it all for you in the opening game. Added to that the Keshik is a good UU (for me a special nuisance when facing it...). If you like war and rapid expansion of your cultural borders, Kublai will likely be a good choice.
As for me, playing Gandhi has another reason - it's usually no big thing to grab a religion with him, on Noble you can clean-sweep the early three ones and get 5 out of 7 in the total. With his industrious trait you get a shot at most wonders - he's a heck of a builder. In my current game on Pince I could grab Stonehenge, Pyramids, Oracle, Great Library and Hanging Gardens. Not that this was very wise to do so - if I had given this shields to unit production I could likely have taken out Isa and Pete and own the whole continent by now. But...I'm a wonder addict. Perfect for Gandhi ![wink wink](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/wink2.gif) . And I like those cool Fast Workers too...

Tokugawa is probably my all time favorite for warmongering. For peaceful games, it's Asoka.
I'm rather fond of Alexander, Mao, Saladin, Elizabeth and Peter. I actually just listed almost every philo leader, well i think it's a good general-purpose trait, for adaptive play rather than going in with a pre-defined strategy.
It would not be a stretch to say that my favorite traits are Organized, Philo and Aggressive.

I am partial to Qin but also like Hatty, Louis. Trait wise I like Ind., Creative, and Spiritual. I think I need to ween my way off of the Ind. trait and wonders in general. I sometimes have to stop myself from grabbing a wonder "just because." Without Ind. trait I am forced to grab only those wonders I really need and that are synergestic with my Strategy in that game.
