[SPOILER] Jowy - Peter of Egypt (Green Game)

Can I "save" a hammer overflow if I don't choose a build?
Also, I'm 1 turn from Engineering. If I have spears that complete on that exact turn, will they automatically upgrade to pikes (and if not enough hammers for a pike, then keep building a pike) or will I just get a spear?

if you finish building in this turn and same turn finish research you'l have a speraman so beter delay.

1) I don't know. But if you build wealth or research for a turn instead, the overflow is saved until you go back to a real build, and you get free stuff too!

2) I'm pretty sure the spear will turn into a pike, so you'll finish it or have a partly built pike. But since mackoti says otherwise maybe you should get a third opinion.

If you've been a really good boy this year, Jowy, Santa will turn the Spear into a Tank... wink

If you have the situation where your research says 1t and your builds say 1t then when you hit enter they should all upgrade if you have enough hammers to complete them.

Thx guys, the spears did change to pikes and I managed to reserve the overflow hammers by building commerce. Now we have a bunch of pikes and two out of three castles built. 1T castles ftw! I think each unpromoted cata takes down 2% of cultural defenses, so it'd take him 50 cats to take down defenses in one turn. It's more likely he'll just go for the collateral damage and then overwhelm the defenders. Tatan, if there's something you can't figure out what it is for, or just something else you need to know, feel free to ask!

Super Serious Intro Wrote:In the late hours of the previous evening, Emperor Jowy announced his retirement, claiming that he had more important things to do in a mysterious realm called, "Real Life". Chaos briefly ensued, but by the morning, Jowy was AFK, and a new leader was in town. Magnificent Tatan, Esquire [TM].

Ha-ha, just being stupid.

So, anyway, I am now Peter of Egypt! Huzzah! Haven't gotten a chance to look at the save yet [BTW thanks Jowy] in much detail, but when I do I will do some sort of overview/planning post. This game is apparently relatively slow, so don't expect that my takeover will result in double the posts a la Regoarrarr in PBEM8, but I will try to update each turn, or at least give a lame excuse for not doing so.

If you would like to see some of my previous [STRIKE]blunders[/STRIKE] exploits in warfare, see my PBEM10 thread. And, if Jowy's builds from the paused turn he sent me have been any indication, there is going to be plenty of war here. Of course, Kyan is also like uber-1337, so the result of said war will likely make little difference. But it is still going to be fun! hammer

@Jowy: I emailed you about this too, but are there any diplomatic deals/alliances/whatever I should know? I don't want to completely screw up the course of the game. If you have any last wishes or anything ["Kill Strike!"], I would be happy to [attempt to] complete them to the best of my abilities.

Well, most if it should be already in this thread. Anyways, Seifer is my closest ally and he's reliable. Malakai is with us, but also deals with Kyan. I did too, spoke to him alot both for fun and to get info. The three of us would be willing to give it a shot against Kyan together, but TT, who came in recently too, was already a very good friend of Kyan before entering this game and obviously would not go against him. It's a shame because he's got a pretty large army (at the expense of his economy. There's no way he'll recover, it's more like a suicide attack on me. The one gaining the most is his friend Kyan.. Not that he needs any help lol ). Seifer is also sending some troops over to help defend. TT's units will be largely outdated (comparing to that Kyan will soon get to draft rifles). Cho-ko-nu's, catapults, a large stack of HA's from Kyan (that's what the recent pike builds are for, got confirmation on the gifting of the HA's). You've got three turns until the NAP with TT runs out. Got one with Kyan and Seifer too, they should be 20ish turns longer.. You should ask them. Don't have the numbers with me right now.

I'd hope you would work together with Seifer atleast, I think he deserves it. I don't think there's anything you can do to not fight TT, it was never about profit or personal fights. Actually I'm still kinda wondering why the hell is he attacking lol. Anyway, feel free to play what ever way you want! I'd suggest concentrating on the war now, then see what your options are. Be friendly with everyone in diplo.

Minor thing really, but if you want to keep up the naming theme, here's an useful link smile

Well, I take it that does not apply to me? frown

Good luck Tatan - in this war wink

All things considered, not as horrible as it could be. You take out Kyan the Statistical Outlier, and Egypt isn't trailing *that* far behind. Especially considering the past events of the game.

Things that strike me:
-Need more workers! Okay, maybe not the best time to train them, but more tile improvements would be nice, my micromanagement fingers are itching. If TT is to be defeated, I'm going to be needing a lot more bang for my buck [yes, this is why I am training three more workers in the back-lines].

The combined might of Babylon and Egypt.

-We have a great defensive army, but a poor offensive one. What do I mean by this? Jowy's managed to get Castles in all the front-line cities [ignore Valefor], and combined with an elite garrison of 3-4 longbows per city, any attack will be devastatingly slow and/or bloody, and I will have plenty of time to bring forth the suicide siege. However... considering the fact that China has like twice as much power as Egypt, I think more catapults will be required. Many, many more. Also, more maces + pikes, who will be able to counter-attack invading stacks a lot better than longbows.

-Forges... I need forges... okay, maybe not this very second, when there is a GIANT ARMY MARCHING DOWN THE STREET, but, arg, it hurts me inside to see all these [STRIKE]shields[/STRIKE] hammers go to waste, especially when I expect to be cranking out units for most of the rest of the game. So for now I limit myself to just one in Alexander, which is right about ready to whip again anyway.

-The main stack is in plain view of Twinkletoes right now.

Consarned mountains.

Pretty minor, especially since he probably already has a good idea what he's up against, but I figure hey, why not make him unable to know where all my units are. This does have the disadvantage of preventing me from immediately attacking any enemy units who appear 1 SW of Leviathan, but considering the total lack of roads leading there in TT's land it's probably a non-issue.

The Only Theatre
[Image: Civ4ScreenShot0056.jpg]

The Main Rally Point is primarily cats and longbows, with other various one-movers pouring in, and will guard the cities of Alexander and Leviathan. Something that occurs to me now is the fact that TT can one-move Alex by coming in from the southwest, so I'll have to do something about that; one or two pikes in the city should suffice, unless TT's forces are almost exclusively mounted, in which case I am totally screwed. Oh, what's that?
Jowy two posts ago Wrote:...a large stack of HA's from Kyan...
bang Okay, I'll need to think on that...

The Side Rally Point will feature a mini-stack of mounted units, with a few cats and various others, and will safe-guard Shiva just in case. I might move some of the units headed there to Alexander itself now that I've discovered that weak-spot.

And then you have poor Valefor, crammed in on the southeast borders of China. The city is pretty indefensible, and I would only throw away units trying to hold it, so I'll probably just keep a token longbow there [along with anything I can whip]. There is a war chariot there right now, but I'll probably withdraw him next turn.

Tech Plan
Jowy had Horse Back Riding set up next, and I happened to agree. After HBR, I can immediately go for Guilds; knights will counter cho-no-ku/catapult stacks quite effectively, can match HAs in speed, and might even be able to raze a border city if I play my cards right. Plus, with the extra exp from stables I could get some sentries out, which would help a lot with guarding the front.

And just look at Kyan's GNP again. The man is only 150 short of being equal to every other player in the game combined. Knights will be my only chance to attack TT, before Kyan launches the Space Ship or something. And so, provided I don't die first, march I shall. hammer
