... some time later ... here is my report for Adv 9. Diplomatic Victory in 1880

Someone won a true diplo victory! Yay!

I do feel obliged to point out, however, that Hatty and Saladin were seperated by only 5 population points. If Hatshepsut had even one more city (such as the barbarian one on the eastern border of your civ), you would have had zero chance of victory. And you won by 9 votes - cutting it just a bit close there!

Congrats on the win, but you can see why I don't like to rely on the fickleness of the AI voting for a diplo win.

Thx Sullla. I was checking the population all thru the game and Hatty was constantly #1. That might have changed via war but <fingers crossed> ...

I think you mean "Saladin had 1 more city" instead of Hatty. BTW - how are the votes tallied? Is it the sum of your city sizes or is it some other function of your total population?

Very impressive as you truly pursued the diplo win from the start. I also got a true diplo victory, but that was more of a lucky break than following a strategy from the start.

I have always thought that the diplo win emerges more from a opportunity or a late game decision, but your game really showed that it can be a strategic choice right from the beginning (or at least from the date that the early landgrab is over, as in this case).

Thanks also for the excellent report. I really appreciate the effort you and many other people put in writing up so detailed reports. I find myself writing short summaries, and that already with the time spent on playing the event, takes quite some time.
