The bigger question for me is what is a good tool to build your own web page.

I would personally suggest learning basic html (Usually a hours worth) and than downloading a html editor. There is alot of free html editors on the web. Once you know the basic code, you can make the website, and the editor will work like a spellcheck, correcting the mistakes [if any] you make. If you dont want to download a html editor, you can work with notepad but it might become a problem if you make a mistake and cant find it smile .

This is probably enough for a basic website for RB events, if you want to get complicated though, you will probably need to learn more advanced html and css and all the other good stuff. tongue

Complicated is overrated. Better to put that extra effort in to sharpening your writing or expanding your screenshots. smile My two bits. 8)

Why are those two crap? Because ... cough ... I use them both. I have found freewebs to be much easier to use than geocities but the free-form text mode does sometimes cause me formatting issues.

I really need to get some webspace for reports as well. I tend to lose my notes or screenshots if I don't write the report right away. Yes, I'm that stupid. rolleye
Here's hoping that I'd manage better if I could upload screenshots right away.

How much space will I need if I plan to upload a report for maybe every 3rd game? I usually only have a modest number of screenshots.

Hi,

That heavily depends on how much you compress the pictures (using the .jpg format). A full-size screenshot takes about 150k in my reports, most cropped screenshots only need 50k. My reports usually have approx. 30 screenshots, which means that each report takes around 2mb of space for me.

Indeed. Everything on my website is created using Notepad and some extremely basic html. People seem to like it plenty though. [Image: smile.gif]

So I got an account at byethost and now I'm lost. frown

I understand that I need to piece something html together and can then upload that so that others can see it.

So far so good.

Now, how do I do this html stuff? Can somebody recommend an editor and a good manual? I'm sure I can learn it, but google so far just confused me more. Easy for blondes would be best. (No, I'm not blonde. Does that matter?) smile

I guess I can manage learning it in English, but as there are some Germans around here, I wouldn't mind if you could post a link to an explanation in German.

Help would be much appreciated!
I enjoy reading all those reports and would like to give something back for others to read. Probably in the "how not to do it" section though. lol
