Okay, let's try this again.
I founded Thebes in 3970 in the spot that picks up the gold, cows and (eventually) horses. I started on a worker and sent the warriors out exploring. My warriors had a poor sense of direction as I think they only found 1 hut apiece.
I decided not to go after any religions. AH was auto as the initial research choice. I wanted at those fat deer looking things and I especially wanted to know what the horse status was. To play Hatty on Pangea, pop horses in your fat cross, and NOT put them to significant use ASAP (in this case, 1000 BC) is virtually a crime, imo.
I popped Mysticism a few turns in. I'm always tempted to found early religions. I successfully resisted the temptation this time and look what the game does to me! Okay, I figure that I'll go ahead and finish AH and then start on Polytheism (I go after Buddhism if I start with Mysticism and Poly otherwise.) If anyone started out researching Poly, they'll beat me there no matter what I do. With any luck I'll get it otherwise.
Bah, I just hit Esc AGAIN.

Trying to type on my desktop while pulling up the save files on my laptop is hurting my brain.
Let's just say I punished Lizzy, Saladin and Mansa, capturing cities from Lizzy and Saladin and capturing one city from Mansa, pillaging otherwise (I hate skirmishers). Got technologies from them for peace. Eliminated these 3 with Maces and Cats and then pushed westward, finishing the job with Cav.
