pindicator's Warlords3 report

To sum up my strategy for the game:

To the tune of a popular song:
Everybody have fun tonight!
Everybody Wang Kon tonight!

You can throw assorted rotting vegetables at your own discretion.

By the way, the report is here.

Very well played indeed. thumbsup

Roosy as pop leader? He must have had a great land grab, as he was #1 candidate to get squeezed out.

Nice game. I was hoping that someone would vote for the opponent as I really wanted to see a voting screenshot with that in it. Too funny. Very nice report too.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

Nice game. Interesting choice of capital location, did you think moving to the coast was worth it even without Great Lighthouse or ToA?

Quote:This is your chance to sound back in the forum: do open borders influence religious spread? Should I have held back on opening borders or researching Sailing?

The religions get out anyway unless you found them in a truly isolated city, just at a slower rate. However if you don't open borders for a while it's likely that the first religion that gets out will be the first to spread to other AIs via the AI open borders too.

I think your military operations as UN peacekeeper were completely appropriate. Oh, Stalin didn't do much in my game either, except for occasionally ask for some tribute which I was happy to give him for points.

Well played pindicator. Those skirmishes could have caused more havoc but you managed to keep Roosevelt ahead, even by a fraction of population wink

Wow. Roosevelt wasn't even a contender for high-AI pop in my game. Nicely played.

Roosevelt was running a SE in my game, as he had hardly a single cottage: all farms and even mostly windmills. DC was up above 20 pop for a good part of the late game. He did manage to squeeze Liz pretty well, grabbing all the lands north of London's start location.

Perhaps because I didn't push far to the north, Liz instead expanded south more, giving Roosevelt more room to expand? huh

oh you truly didn't push north! you didn't even get that rice. i think that was the third city i settled. i see a granary resource with an AI nearish, i want to beat them to it *giggle*. liz really spread out north in my world. roos had very little land and nappy was out to leave him with none. nappy declared on roos at least twice, maybe 3 times. i think roosevelt was happier in your world!

"Interesting choice of capital location, did you think moving to the coast was worth it even without Great Lighthouse or ToA?" i'm not pindicator (no really, i'm not!) but i put my capital there too. my reasoning was that health will be a very big issue, since i won't be going to war to gain territory/resources, and will have to be very careful about resource trades to avoid lose/lose "cancel trades with the vile so-and-so" demands. i didn't plan on going for the low in pop bonus, and i like big productive cities. i loved that it could get a harbor but had only 3 water tiles (that i couldn't improve later). it ended up having more hills than i expected and i might not have put it there if i'd known that, but it turned out to be a very nice capital in my case. with the hills and forests (that regrew nicely) it was happy little wonderland (Oracle, GLib, Pyramids, that sort of thing).

i built colossus in a city i put between the spice and the pigs, because it was cheap and i had forests i was going to chop anyway. but i never did work the water in the capital much, my colossus was mostly for the fishing villages i knew i'd build, and i built it knowing it would expire soonish.

I found that my biggest cities were indeed health limited, so having the capital on the coast for the harbor wasn't a bad move. It's somewhat ironic that health is more of an issue when your empire is small (because you have fewer resources) than when you have more land.

i have learned that lesson well in my OCC games! in a sense, health issues are okay, since they're caused by too many people. you had too much food or they'd not have been born at all, so what's the big deal? but i want my cities to be productive and pretty. since there are many more tools to help with happiness, i place a very high value on health resources, especially the easily-doubled ones, and i try for freshwater/harbors.
