I exploited the rules of this game worse than an American megacorporation discovering a population of starving fourth world children willing to work 18 hours/day to earn pennies making shoes and t-shirts. So, it seems unconscionable for me to post my report. It's really not the same event.
That being the case, I would like to say that I enjoyed playing this event quite a bit. Even if you're exploiting something, you are subject to the rules of the event. To play well requires attention to the game, meaningful decisions, and likely will lead to an increase in the quality of your play. To me, especially with the prospect of comparing your efforts with others', that's fun.
Having more than one scoring category as per Sullla's suggestion in Ruff_hi's thread, perhaps even self-nominated as Ruff suggested, does make things a bit more awkward, but it might work.
I don't know the solution. I have no interest whatsoever in playing an easy game just to beat the scores of less experienced players. I also don't want to see things go the way of CFC's HoF/GotM games and have all games become hard-core competitive rule-benders (though I myself appear to be a big part of the problem by playing the events the way I do).
I like the variants. I like the competition. I like having players with differing experience and backgrounds play te events.
Maybe instead of a listed score for a gentle (and maybe medium?) event, a veteran player can write a 1- or 2-sentence description of their game that would be listed in the Results under a "What our veterans did with this variant" section.
Relevant to this event, I did discover one more way to make money during this event. If you partially build a missionary, then remove it from the queue. Then, you built your entire quota of that religion's missionaries, your partially built missionary will be refunded to you just like a lost wonder. It would take a lot of micromanaging to make this profitable, but I thought I'd point it out in case anyone was interested.

No, I don't like this. Part of the event is the report. I have an equal (or greater) amount of fun with my reports. You could partially build missionaries in every city and let the last three complete. You would have to MM it a bit, but that would generate a fair bit of gold. Is it 1 gold per hammer? Its a better return that building gold straight off.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

Chicken.... Nice use of antagonism as enticement! Let's see if others weigh in on this.
As for the 1- or 2-sentence comments, I did still envision a link to the veteran's full report. I agree that the reports are one of the best part of these events. Maybe even better than playing them.

Count me as one vote for a report. Seeing what the really strong veteran players can do with a scenario has been a great learning tool for me, and reading them is a lot of fun as well. You can tell when someone had a great time playing.

Absolutely. This is only my second event and report, but I had tremendous fun writing it up. It also made me think a lot more about just what happened and why, and how I can do better in future.

Seems reasonable to me to declare your game to be a shadow, and report anyway. I don't think you are obliged to explain why your game is a shadow....
Besides, now you've got everybody curious.

I'd like to see your report Compromise.
Aside from that, I plan to submit a shadow for this game. Had planned to play, but it wasn't high-priority enough to get done on time. So for my game, I'm doing variant within a variant. Considering your level of skill, I imagine you could pick something really crazy and still pull off a win, all without taking advantage of the game.

Publish and be damned, says I.
I think rule-bending reports can be useful it highlighting pitfalls to avoid in the rules of future game, so long as such reports are the exception and not the rule.

Okay, that's gotta be a quorum. I shall reap what I have sown. Perhaps there might even be some tactics or strategy in there that will be of interest to other players.
My report is here. The finish date is beatable, and I would be very grateful ( :guilt: ) if another veteran player finished faster.

This works even better with wonders if you are industrious, have organized religion, and/or have the stone/marble/whatever for the wonder. Close to 3 gold per hammer ain't bad. You just can't be working on more than one at a time. Oh, and it's good to actually complete the wonder at some point, assuming you want the thing.
I figured this out way back before I even started looking for civ web sites, but never bothered with it. Figuring out exploits is fun, using them is boring.
