EPIC 12 - Stagnate

My Report

Diplomatic loss to Mansa in 1838. He was on fire this game, well on the way to space or culture victory (3 cities at 40k, and Apollo + parts built).

Fun game that I enjoyed playing, even on the losing side.

Nice report, you're thinking along the right lines. Probably waited too long to attack Asoka though and gave yourself a harder fight, I can see it's pretty easy to fall behind with Delhi's culture preventing you from using the floodplains at your other captured cities. I'm impressed you managed to hold off a cavalry attack with completely outdated troops. Mansa's diplomatic win was surprising, but I guess you were probably too far behind by that stage to catch up in the space race anyway.

Yeah, I am loath to lose units, so tend to wait for sure thing wins rather than a brute force attack. I was researching past biology but Mansa already had built Apollo, so probably done for, but I think I was on the upwards trend, so even if I wasn't going to win I do think that I had a chance to make it interesting.

Regarding the calvary attacks, they were all naval, so landings of a couple calvary and a cannon. They were mostly on the defensive, only one attack against a city which I had enough units in that a single longbow held on to win. There was also an amphib attack after I started lining my shores (in Civ3 mode :-)

I also forgot to mention that I got a defensive pact with HC during the latter half of the game (after the calvary attack), up until he attacked Cyrus. That made me breath a lot easier.
