Robert Jordan Passed Away 9/16/07

I know there are a few interested parties, so here's my bad news for the day:

http://www.dragonmount.com/

Yes, folks, Robert Jordan, author of The Wheel of Time series has passed away.

And yes, in some people's eyes, even worse news: He wasn't finished with the series that has already taken so many people roughly 10,000 pages into a tale that won't be finished. Unless there is some sneaky lawyer stuff, Jordan had repeatedly claimed his will and contract were both written so his notes and his story were to never be finished by anyone else. So... my sympathies go to his family and friends. And the (probably) million other people who will mourn the passing of the story that he took with him.
Fire good.

I never even knew anything was wrong with him.

But I did stop reading his series because I caught up to whatever book it was that was out (I think book 5 or 6) and it took him forever to come out with another so I started reading other books and just never got back to his. The final book is gonna be what # in the series? I'm not sure if I'll ever catch up. I think I may have to read the entire series over again! cry

That is sad though that he passed before completing his last book himself.
If you believe everything you read, better not read.

Think positively.

Maybe the 'army of writers' that take over the story will not suffer the ego issues he did and will permit sufficient editing to allow the story line to not get dragged down in what colour of embroidered flowers are on the characters clothing each day.

Yes, I loved the first few books. Yes, I loved the whole sweeping story. But the man needed an editor with sufficient guts and/or authority to tidy up his writing for him.

And to completely delete book 10.

Yep, I put down book 6 halfway through and couldn't force myself to continue.

Hmm, maybe some of you have read (6-7 years ago?) this little novel called Thomas The Bard (almost 100% sure of the title) by Elizabeth "someone". A most enchanting short novel I borrowed from a local library. I have for years now try to buy a copy of it but couldn't find it in any database, nothing on the web either frown

Help?

Thanks for posting this, Uca.

I'm glad it appears that the tale will be finished - I've invested so many enjoyable hours following the adventures of the whole gang from Emond's Field that it would have been extremely depressing to think that I'd never find out what happened!

Yes, his writing could have used a bit of tidying up. But in a perverse way (maybe I'm just weird), I enjoyed the multitudinous plotlines, and all the little details - the story was like a sumptuous feast with so much to savor!

BTW, anyone of you figured out who killed Asmodean yet? wink

Robert Jordan has died. It is a sad day for all who have read his wonderful works.

I have started this thread for people who wish to express their feelings and sadness at his death.

I am sad at Harriet's and our loss. James Oliver Rigney shall be missed.

I was very saddened to hear about the loss of 'Robert Jordan'. The world of The Wheel of Time is an amazing achievement in fantasy literature. I would not have believed it possible for someone to contruct a setting of such mind-boggling scope while, at the same time, such complex and intricate depth. I have had many (many) happy hours reading his books.

I too feel for his family and friends who have had such a difficult time during his long illness and must now cope with his loss.
