This is a placeholder until I get home from work this evening... I drew an early range tech (r5 i think) for a very nice xmas present. Too nice in fact; the game was all downhill and i won by vote in 2499. Report to follow...
Imperium 25 report
|
Wow, big range boost from the artifacts world, very nice. Would definitely have sped expansion by a big factor. Trying to tech range 5 with my homeworld and pitiful little poor second planet, ick.
Looking forward to the full report.
It was even more egregious than that... range 6, right off the bat. Followed by, errrr... range 5 from willow Most people would kill for an early range tech, I go and pull two by 2315.
Range 6 within the first 10 turns made the game something of a cakewalk; i took it real easy, settling my 6th planet kakata in 2345 to coincide with the first war declaration from the bears. we started espionage as soon as we met, making the first breakthrough (ECM1) in 2359. AI expansion was REALLY slow; we met the sakkra in 2369, they were still a 1PE. our scout explored herculis the next yeat, incredibly nobody had been there yet - we got mass driver. by 2376 we were out to 17 planets, coincidentally the same year we stole RC3 from the bears. i focused all rsch on planetology, stealing everything else. the big disadvantage was we didn't get a cleanup tech until we stole RW80 from the sakkra in 2415. the next year we settled escalon, which triggered the vote. we had stolen 19 techs at this stage and in hindsight should have thrown our 15/38 votes to the silicoids and triggered final war to really run up the score. but given i was playing pretty quickly the thought didn't even occur to me until after the game was over the run to 2499 was much of the same, continued expansion while stealing from everyone, which of course basically put me in a final war-like situation without the benefit of being able to steal techs jointly researched by the other races i left planetology research going, meaning by the time the final vote came around we were up to advanced planetology 4 (level 79 overall) while the next best category was computer tech, level 36. uhm, possibly not the best use of resources the final vote was darloks 77, psilons 22 with votes from all other races. we ended up stealing 58 techs, the highest being BC7. i really enjoyed the game, apologies for not playing better but i felt kind of sheepish drawing such a great starting tech in my first report in a while so i just cruised to the finish line without thinking things over too much. full list of techs stolen: 2359 first steal, ECM1 2362 steal hyper Vs 2364 steam ECM2 2365 steal terra+10 2376 big one, hit 5 of 6 fields; at ursa. get RC3. reserves poured in across the board. found crypto, 17th planet. demographic show we're competitive across the board. strongest fleet silicoids only have gatling laser 2377 misclick & steal propulsion (r4) 2379 first success vs sakkra, take hand lasers 2380 immediate success after, get BC2 2389 get anti-missile rockets from bears 2391 get IIT9 from bears. i think it's time to switch to spying heavy on silicoids based on techs (r7, BC4, IT+30). they still have nothing better than gatling lasers. 2396 banner year as we steal fusion bombs from bears and IT+20 for our first steal from silicoids 2397 hit in all 6 silicoid categories. take propulsion for r7. minor detail - bears declare again. tech tree has ion cannon and fusion bombs so i move to base-building at full speed where i can. 2398 get class 2 shields from bears and gatling from silicoids 2399 get range 5 from sakkra 2414 neutron blaster from bears 2415 FINALLY get some cleanup tech, RW80 from sakkra 2416 personal deflector shield from silicoids; self-rsch controlled toxic, enhanced eco next. 2418 steal death spores from bears 2422 steal duralloy from silicoids 2427 IIT7 from silicoids and ECM3 framing humans for 1st steal from psilons. also 1st protest (silicoids) 2429 steal controlled radiated from psilons + frame humans again * 25th steal 2431 steal ion cannon from silicoids 2432 class 3 shields from bears, found vega and maalor for 30 planets. mobas too for good measure. humans complain. 2433 ion rifle from bears. 2435 terra+30 from silicoids 2436 BC4 from silicoids, ARS from psilons 2437 zortium from silicoids, only IT+40 left, klystron supernova in 12 2442 steal classIV shields from silicoids, tundra + human frame on psilons 2443 steal BC3 + human frame on psilons *35th steal 2446 steal ECM4 from silicoids 2447 steal stingers from bears 2449 steal improved eco + human frame from psilons 2455 get ISS from psilons, frame humans 2461 steal BC5 from bears 2462 hit in 5 fields against psilons. take sublight drives, frame humans 2474 steal DSS from psilons, frame humans, self-research complete terra + start backfilling planetology 2479 steal RC4 from psilons, humans declare 2482 steal NPG from humans, frame psilons 2483 steal battle suits from humans, take imra. humans have ASS and ECM6, apart from that i've stolen everything except for psilons. massively ramp spying on them. *45th/46th steal 2484 get ASS from humans, PS5 framing humans from psilons 2486 hit 5 fields from psilons, take fusion beams framing humans, capture laan from bulrathi 2488 steal IS from psilons, take maretta 2491 steal RW60 from psilons 2492 steal EC6 from humans, class 5 shields from psilons 2494 steal hyperX from sakkra, controlled inferno from psilons. they declare war. 2495 steal BC6 from psilons 2496 steal cloning from psilons; talas is glassed by psilons 2497 steal megabolt cannon from psilons 2498 steal class X shield from psilons; sakkra declare war 2499 steal BC7 on the interturn :-) at mentar no less
Range 6 (!!) in the first 15 turns or sooner? That is pretty balance-destroying...but also a lot of fun, I bet.
So Final War actually joins the AIs' research points? I did not realize that. I knew they became an alliance and thought they shared/gifted with each other. Actual combined research would make a significant difference.
Sounds like quite a fun ride! Thanks for reporting and taking us along! Congratulations also on a very respectable score of 116 - curiously, there wasn't as much benefit in this particular game to getting good techs from the ART worlds nearby (though Irridium Cells and Controlled Tundra - the latter both for production bonuses and for colonizing Kailis with no research required - are among the better ones here).

If you haven't yet, check out Maniac's old Imperium 11 report to see just how insane early R6 can be in the right hands. One cool thing is, for THIS game, the best scoring move might have been to gift the tech around - both so AIs research other things and so they can colonize the galaxy (and eventually tech) much faster than they otherwise could. Quote:So Final War actually joins the AIs' research points? I did not realize that. I knew they became an alliance and thought they shared/gifted with each other. Actual combined research would make a significant difference.I didn't know that either! Do they really all tech as one, or (as I had believed) do they each tech individually and auto-gift everything around? Thinking about it, I think the latter would be more efficient overall if no two researched the same thing, but the former would be very interesting, especially for beelines (e.g. up the weapons tree). The function is quite complex so I cannot say whether it works correctly.
I second the . Many thanks to kyrub!
There will likely be significant duplication in the AIs' research efforts, so this is not as powerful as true RP sharing would be. But there will be a lot of differences in tech trees, so the overall impact of getting more options from each tree will partly compensate. haphazard1 Wrote:There will likely be significant duplication in the AIs' research efforts Exactly. And with the old bug that caused frequent sharing of race / objective when AI chooses a dominant tech field the duplication effect was really detrimental. ---------- By the way, I am not sure at all whether the AI notices that it has acquired the tech through final war sharing from someone else and stops its current research of that same tech ! kyrub Wrote:By the way, I am not sure at all whether the AI notices that it has acquired the tech through final war sharing from someone else and stops its current research of that same tech! The AI should notice the gift if it goes through the normal tech discovery code but it could be missed if Final War sharing is dealt with seperately. Analysis of a few savegames of (preferably) consecutive years during final war would show the answer. If anyone still has some or can easily produce them, post and I will check. |
