Replacement/Substitute/Teammate Needed for RBP3

So, in the hope that someone interested is reading this but not aware of it yet: Team Friendly Kittens (Ragnar of Maya) in the RBP3 game needs some help, in the sense of someone unspoiled who can play any significant role on the team over the next month or so (or longer if you wish).

We'll be happy to bring you up to speed on the in-game (and meta-game) situation, and we'll welcome any level of participation you prefer to take on; if you have any questions or (please?) are willing to help, send us an e-mail (we're on gmail, where we are of course FriendlyKittens) or post in this thread, or get in a time machine to drag Ragnar Lodbrok over to the New World and convince him to lead Maya instead of his native Scandinavia. Whichever you find most convenient.

I followed Bismark of India for a short bit (maybe a handful of turns in) before I stopped checking up on PB3. If you don't get anyone else, I could help out.

Thanks for the offer! I'm hoping we can get someone totally unspoiled, but in case such a person isn't around to volunteer, I'll ask in the game IT thread if people think it's okay for you to join us. [EDIT: After a moment's thought, my opinion is that any amount of reading in a non-eliminated player's thread is Too Spoiled. I've nevertheless posted in the IT thread, in case I'm alone in that opinion - and thanks very much for the offer regardless!]

I'm unspoiled for that game. What is it you're looking for in a Sub? I'm free enough that I check in on the action in the PB2 game twice a day, but I have enough of a workload that I'm uncomfortable with a commitment to be main turn-player. It is for that exact reason that I didn't sign up for PB3 myself. I could probably have done it but I just didn't want the extra responsibility causing more stress than I already have.

So if you need a main turn-player I'm not sure I'm your guy. If you just need some input and perhaps the occasional turn play I could join your team. If you just want an extra brain to bounce ideas off, perhaps I could simply be a dedicated lurker on your thread only? I'd have to check the rules on this though, I'm not sure to what extent even dedicated unspoiled lurkers are allowed to contribute unless they are official team members.

EDIT: If Krill or anyone in the know sees this, can I get an opinion on that last sentence?

An unspoiled dedicated lurker is practically a team member and can act as such even if he isn't officially part of the team. (Unless the team in question has a problem with such behaviour, of course.)

Terrific! Unfortunately, we really need someone who could take on a fairly major role on the team - if that weren't the case, the need wouldn't be so critical in the first place. We're doing what we can to set up our civ to remain strong in spite of upcoming periods with little or no contact from us, but this would be a thousand times easier if we were handing key duties off to a primary turn-player and/or diplomat, at least for the period when Maniac and I will be mostly away.

Maniac and I each signed on to be "dedicated lurkers" ... but our original primary turn player (Cull) underestimated the time investment needed to such an extent that we dedicated lurkers have pretty much been running the team. The trouble is, a big part of the reason we wanted to be dedicated lurkers in the first place was that we knew there would be times (like the one coming up for the next month or so) when we wouldn't be able to do much with the game.

That said, almost ANY amount of assistance would be helpful. For instance, if even a totally-spoiled lurker were able to log in and play a turn or two according to highly specific instructions (to ensure no spoiler-based knowledge affected the moves, a'la T-Hawk for certain teams and periods in RBP1) over Memorial Day weekend and perhaps a couple other upcoming times, that might allow us to sort of squeak through. The nature of the game though is that a lot of the time sink (for which Maniac and I won't have enough time in the near future) is bound up with diplomacy ... and helping with that is obviously something a spoiled lurker can't do, no matter how detailed the instructions we try to leave.

We welcome lurkers in our thread, dedicated or otherwise, and (as Sandover points out) unspoiled, dedicated lurkers are free to contribute whatever they desire ... but ... see above: BEWARE!!! Maniac and I thought we were going to be "dedicated lurkers" too. Of course, not coming in on the ground floor, you might never wind up as invested in the civ as we find ourselves now, in which case I guess it's safe. Maybe.

All i would say is if you're looking to dip your toes into the pitboss scene- you couldn't hope for a better crowd to do it with. Feck it, can i come play Maya's turns? lol

I completely agree. I also originally signed on as a "dedicated lurker". In my case, I became more of a full teammate not because the turn-player left, but because I got so sucked into the game that I wanted a bigger part (and also wound up with more free-time than I anticipated during the signup period). The best way I can put it is that it will take A LOT of self-restraint to remain only a dedicated lurker, so just be honest with yourself whether or not you can manage to remain a dedicated lurker. That being said, I have absolutely no regrets about getting sucked in to the game, it has been awesome so far. If you are at all considering it, it is a great way to start (and being on a team of three to four would be a great way to get your feet wet with Pitboss).

Your case was you chosing to join in, yet in our case, I signed up as a turn-player but was literally amazed at the pure amount of time it took, and now dedicated lurkers, not on purpose, have to turn-play frown.
