In RB fashion, we will fill this space up with words. However, i am thinking of going Sandalphon of the Grigori. Defensive Adventurers are the best thing ever.
No really. They really are quite good.
Would you like to try being them for once?
No?
That's too bad. Neither am i.

So, who shall my leader be? I really wanted Perpentach of the Grigori, to get rid of that Agnostic, but now i realized i do have two other options.
Einion Logos of the Grigori (Philosophical, and Tolerant?)
or...
Jonas Endain of the Barbaric Grigori!
I'll sleep on it. Will have an answer when i wake up, and will also receive suggestions from other Grigorians (or, as you might put it, lurkers).

Just so you know the drill with this.
Perpentach's first trait change removes the civ trait. You'll be agnostic at the beginning of the game, but should be trait free by the time you can use religions effectively, unless you get really unlucky.
HOWEVER:
The Grigori are banned from building temples. This severely limits their usage of all religions except for Council of Esus.
I played and won with this combo in a PBEM against Bob and Sareln, and I really like Council of Esus with the Grigori. Several of the worst traits of the Council(lack of healing units, lack of temples) just don't matter for the Grigori. And just having *any* religion is a major boost for the Grigs. CoE Nox Noctis and Gibbon were major components of my play.
That game was an Always War though. This one has diplomatics available. If somebody gives you a temple, then you can start spreading the other religions around through using priests to build temples. It's a little cock eyed, but it can be effective. (Or at least, it can be effective in a WB game where I gave myself a starting temple to check the concept.)
If you want a more detailed explanation of how I played my own game of religious Grigori, feel free to ask.

Bear in mind:
1. Barbarian leaders with anyone but the Clan of Embers or Balseraphs can't conquer barbarian cities without declaring on the barbs.
2. Spiritual is pretty awful for a civ which can't build priests.

Yeah i really wasn't thinking straight with Jonas Endain... was thinking of getting Adventurers and rushing with them using barbarian to run through... but if that's the case... might as well use a Tolerant leader.

Ok. I'm going with Einion Logos as my leader.

So, with Einion as my leader, the whole strategy comes to: Rushing someone to take his items with my strong adventurers!
So now, let's look at their civs. Who can i rush, and which will benefit me?
Krill/Kyan - CoE. In theory, this is one of the best civs to attack and conquer. I want those warrens, i really do. Not only do i get settlers twice as fast, i can get a horde of orcish units as well.
In practice, trying to rush these guys are like trying to rush the Great Wall of China. I doubt i'll do a good job at it (especially with warren production). I might have at most 3 adventurers, + 5 other units. Not good enough.
Elimist/Mist - Sidar. Unfortunately wanes belong to the sidar civ, not their units. I can't even be tolerant of them...
On the other hand, i get divided souls. These souls are groovy. Will have to think about it.
In practice, these guys will be easy to rush, i think. It's the Sidar.
Square Leg - Hippus. Erm.... i get nothing, right? Not even horse lords. Yeah i can get horses for my palace mana, but i intend to rush with horses already anyways...
Rushing these guys is also dumb, due to warcry. Next. (Unless i can work with them?)
Sareln - Sheaim. Pyre Zombies, anyone? I am Einion Logos, protector of the world, and i will work to bring the destruction of the world, or something like that.
Of course, once they get said Zombies, i can't rush him anymore.
In practical... it's Sareln.... do i really want to rush him....
Which leaves...
Serdoa/Wk - Illians.
Rushing them means i can get their palace. Their palace is awesome. Furthermore, i believe i can get Philo, even though i'm agnostic. That means 3 priests of winter if i do it fast enough.
Priority? 1. Let's hope they start next to me!

Troops trained by a tolerant leader in a city get the benefit of civ traits, IIRC. Sheaim mages get sundered, Hippus horses get horselords etc.

Ah that's interesting. Still doesn't make Hippus a good target to rush due to their world spell, but better than CoE i guess. Let's just see how the game goes.

Well, i wanted to talk about Grigori, then i realized i hardly know anything about them at all as well apart from "ADVENTURERS".
So the plan is to rush someone and take over his civ instead. savvy?

Ok. I'm entering this game full of good players, with good civ combinations, without a plan and with a civ i hardly know how to play. The only thing on my mind is "Rush someone with Adventurer Horses."
I'm fucked.
