Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to another episode of our world famous "Talks about music" show. We would like to start this episode with this quiet tune, which should set the mood for tonight's discussion

Well, there's not much to discuss right now, without knowing the starts or anything. I think I want a Spi leader this time, maybe I'll be able to leverage the trait after all With Fin banned, Hattie sounds like a good leader pick, but with us picking last, I don't see her lasting
It probably is a better idea to see what others pick and react to that rather than start planning and then find out all our preferred options are gone

Huh, funny. Both the scout and the warriors are staying on tiles I would consider good starting position. I absolutely don't want to SIP, as it will make the fish resource inaccessible. I think I slightly favour the inland spot for the cap, and the coastal spot for the 2nd or 3rd city
If we're ok with a Spi leader, I think both leaders with a top-tier 2nd trait, i.e. Hattie or Isabella, would do nicely. If they both are unavailable when the pick comes to us, then I'll think about other options
For civ, I guess a Spi leader wants a Gunpowder era draftable UU, to get an army of them while in Nationhood. So:
England
Ottomans
France
Ethiopia
Listed in the order of my preference
The starting screen shows that Hunting won't be a bad starting tech on this map, but it's not necessary to get it right away, especially if we move the capital inland. All of the listed civs have decent to good starting techs, so it's not a concern. England and Ottomans have better UB than France and Ethiopia, and I rate England's UU higher than Ottoman's, which is why it's higher in the list

100% pick the inland start, even better if we get expansive. Plains hill + plains forest furs = fast start. Isabella would be great, but I'm already playing her in another game (I won't mind if you pick her). Emperor difficulty gimps fast start traits like EXP and IMP though, and boosts ORG, so keep that in mind.
Also, let's post some bad music we listened to when we were younger.

I'm gonna Dedlurk you guys. Looks like you'll be updating and I haven't really read any games either of you have been in. I hope I can help out. I promise to urge you to war at least every ten turns. :neenernee
Hattie and Isabelle both sound interesting. Ottomans are a solid choice if England is unavailable, in fact I'd put Ottomans above England for their UB.
Interesting start position. I agree that the scout and warrior tiles are both good starts. The thing to think about is that going with the fish start you're going for a WB plus the deer is a hunting tech (fur too). This means you're probably not going directly for agr or AH. If you go inland then you don't have to worry about getting fishing or a WB and you don't need hunting right away.
The start you pick will dictate your tech, but also I think you should consider this with the civ starting techs. IE: England starts you off with mining fishing which might be good for the fish start. Also allows for BW first tech. Things to think about once the snake pick gets around to us. Sorry the randomizer put us last.

Glad to have you, Lewwyn!
Well, Isabella and Hattie are both out. Guess this is not the time to try a Spi leader for me Nicolae is right that Org goes up in value on high difficulty levels, so I'm going to look at Org leaders and probably choose one of them

Well, we want a fast start trait and a late game trait. How about Zara? CRE to accelerate our growth curve and land grabs, ORG to maintain growth.
Sury would have been awesome, I'm surprised he ultimately wasn't banned. Not only that, but it gets the border pop to the 1/2/1 furs a turn earlier.
As for civ pick, something conventionally strong would be nice. Ag/wheel would be nice, to get our few grassland rivers cottaged up early. I've never liked England, Redcoats vs Rifle battles assume no one's cannoned the stack to half hp yet. Jannisaries are overrated. War chariots may be good, tech is going to be slow, and having 2 hyper aggressive players and WCs may be just what we need to "make" friends and concessions. What say you Lewwyn?

Zara sounds good
I don't like Egypt. There's no diplo, we can't get any concessions. And while War Chariots are a threat, we don't want to use them to actually early rush, early-rushing in MP sounds like a losing idea to me. UB doesn't have much value, in particular for a Cre leader who doesn't want to build Monuments
If we're considering civs which start with Myst, I would prefer Byzantium or Maya to Egypt

Good point about the diplo. Creative Maya sounds great, Byzantium also sounds good as there's no chance of an early dogpile.
