My Minecraft World

Hello,

I have considered doing this for a while but not really got around to it so I figured the best thing to do is to start a thread and hope that makes me update it!

There have been a couple of threads started here talking about Minecraft but it hasn't really gleamed much interest as of yet. As such I thought a more detailed look into it would be interesting. I originally got the game years ago when it was still in beta testing and played a fair bit but then grew a little bored of it and shelved it for a long while. I found that I would start a world and then get so far... and then delete it and start again only to do the same thing. This time around I have created a world and stuck to it. I have played for quite a while in this world now and I have built a few things that are worth sharing. I will try and explain the ideas behind things and how Minecraft works when looking at each object in the game.

I hope this will at least get some interest and maybe a few others here at RB how have played Minecraft would like to share some of their creations!

So... where to start.

There are several ways to play Minecraft but I play in Survival Single Player and whilst there is now a way to complete the game (defeating the Ender Dragon), the game is likely to go on until you get bored of it! Players spawn in a random world made up of blocks that form chunks that put together make your map. There are lots of different types of blocks in the world that you can harvest and then craft into all sorts of new blocks and items. Generally your first objective is to survive the first night since in darkness baddies spawn to come and get you! yikes

To do this you will normally need to build yourself a little shelter and get some light in it so you aren't bored looking at a dark wall... 1st goal - Go punch a tree and get wood... with wood the world is your oyster and you can make some tools that enable you to harvest even more and build better tools etc... Here is a screenshot of my first house in the current game:

Here is a view of the animal pen from the top of the tower: (My chicken coop appears to be empty... I think they are hiding...)

It has been extended of course since the first night and isn't amazing - but it has served me well. I am currently undergoing a move of house but the new place isn't quite ready yet... more on that to come of course.

Glad to hear it. It is difficult to do redstone creations justice with only pictures... bang I will get an update together for later on today hopefully.

Ok - So I realise that there is a lot to cover if I am to take this from the start of the game, especially considering I have already played the world I am in for many hours - but I thought I would make this post about basic tools you are going to be making on your first day and then throw in something a bit more advanced for the interest of those who have played a bit of minecraft already.

As I mentioned in the last post, your first goal is going to be get some wood and then craft your basic set of tools. Tools are very important in Minecraft as they allow you to mine/harvest blocks that it is not normally possible to obtain with just your fists... Wood of course you can obtain with your fists

So once you have wood you can turn that wood into planks of wood and then craft a workbench using just your hands!

Sweet - the workbench allows you to craft many more items as the crafting area is a 3x3 grid rather than 2x2 as shown above. You can turn your planks into sticks:

and then by combining the sticks and some planks come the first level of tools you are likely going to need:

Great! With these tools you can go gathering! You can mine coal with your new pick and build some torches - you can use your shovel to speedily dig through dirt and sand and your axe saves your fists a whole lot of pain!

There are a few more tools that you will make in the course of the game but these are the basics. Each tool can be made from ever more durable materials ultimately you will end up making diamond tools and enchanting them making them even more efficient - later we will look at this.

Of course the crafting bench allows you to make all sorts of neat things:

hmm... that sounds cool!

Minecraft has a creative mode too where you have access to every type of block. I use this to plan out designs before creating them in my survival game. Here you can see a door I have made using a piston:

When I press the button in the red circle (there is a button on each side) block is pulled back by the piston and held there for a short period of time while I walk past to the otherside. The door than closes behind me. There are many different types of door you could make - this is just one I thought was cool.

Enough for now - more to come! If anyone has any questions etc just ask and I'll be happy to answer if I can! I am not fantastic at this game but I am learning some neat stuff all the time so hopefully one day!

Any chance people want to create a Minecraft server for RB?
