So, no-one volunteered for C&D stuff and Darrell failed to find the right cookies to bribe rego with. Does that mean we don't have anyone who actually wants to & knows how to do it?
It feels like the sort of thing I should be able to do, but I've never tried to actually do it. If no-one else is doing it, can someone point me at some resources for learning what the numbers mean? (Or I'll google, but if there's a how-to that's known to be good than that'd be a nice place to start.) If someone else is doing it I'll sit at the feet of the master & learn. Either way, we need a thread for screenshots of demographics (and other things?) so I made this one

For a start. You can start working up from there
Thanks Mist

If I were you I'd wait to say things like that till you find out if I'm any good at it or not :neenernee
(I'm pretty sure I can make a stab at it having read that article & worked through some demos from a random PBEM, but GNP is still confusing me. I've actually ordered BTS (having burnt out on Civ IV the first time round around about the time Warlords came out, so never bought it), and once I can poke at changing tiles/techs and seeing what it does to the numbers I should be able to make it make a little more sense. I hope.)

You can't forget to take into account culture and espionage, that get added to the numbers (so at least +6 GNP for everyone in BTS - 2 culture and 4 espi from palace). And there's also the free beaker, which also gets added to the number. Finally, there's prerequisites. I can help with C&D. I'm decent in figuring out what happened, I think, but my organizational skills are lousy. I never do spreadsheets, just throw numbers randomly in my notebook. After a while I can't understand anything that's happening (both in the game and in my notebook). But if someone is willing to do a spreadsheet, I can probably help a bit in C&D.
I can easily keep a spreadsheet of demographic stuff. maybe learn something as well about how to really identify what other people are doing.
So I guess I'll volunteer to help in some capacity.
Cool, I can fade back to lurkerdom a bit
I was thinking I'd make a google docs spreadsheet and give the team google account edit access (& anyone else's private account who wanted it), as then there's no one person who needs to be online to do stuff with it. Infact, I may as well just set that up now as an empty sheet and then superjm or me or anyone else who wants to can set up a structure at some point. Here's the sheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?...Gt5U2hCU1E I think I've got the sharing settings right, let me know your gmail handle if you want to be added for access. There's no real rush on that tho, we need a turn first before there's anything to do with it. But the reason I started the thread so early was that if we drop the ball on getting the data right from the start then we can't go back & get it later. If I'm right about how it works in sequential pitboss then we can get demographics at any point during anyone's turn, but it would make life easier if we have a consistent set where we know exactly who has finished turn & who hasn't. So I suggest that whoever plays the turn takes a screenshot of the demographics screen & the score immediately after ending turn, and posts it in here. Screenshots from other points in the cycle could be useful for figuring out who did what, but if there's a routine one that always gets done then we're less likely to miss some or get confused. Does that sound sensible?

waterbat has been keeping this kind of spreadsheet for PBEM37 (don't look, if you play/ded lurk there).
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?...ieWc#gid=1 Original is apparently from Rego in PB3. This would be pretty good starting point for our work so I suggest shamelessly copying it as a basis for us. |
