Not really going for a cultural victory, right?

More like not expecting any victory. I'm easily the worse and least experienced player in this line-up. But we'll see, I'm yet undecided between going for max economic via Pacal of Inca (with five (5!) lost turns), or go for max variance with something like Brennus of Mongolia.

Max eco might be better though, because there's plenty of room between capitals with a 40x40 map.

if you have 5 lost turns, can you go worker first? presumably, you still want to explore.

If someone goes max economic, you could try kill them really early.

Everyone starts with a scout. So nope, I'm not going to 3-turn a warrior, walk him 16 turns up to someone's capital, and suicide him against a warrior.

If anything, getting a worker out asap is even more important if I pick EXP. You lose 2 turns with EXP, but will gain back 1 of them with the +25% hammers on workers. A safer option would be EXP paired with Agriculture/Wheel, but that's the most common thing ever here on RB lol

Things to consider.

Borders pop to the Oasis at EoT2, meaning I'll have access to it on T3. If I'm EXP, I'll work the 1/2/0 grass hill (6fh, 9b) for 5 turns, and the 3/0/3 oasis (5fh, 12b) for 2 turns. This is useful because of the EXP overflow bug, where only hammers into workers get the +25% bonus, but all foodhammers get the -25% overflow. EXP will give a 7-turn worker.

If I'm not expansive, I'll simply work the best tile available, and get an 8-turn worker.

In other words, picking EXP loses 1 turn worth of worker production, and loses 3 turns of research (from 2 turns frozen in place, another worth of not working river corn or oasis). Is it worth it? I think so. I'll be catching up anyway.

Other things of interest. Tech costs. They're remarkably cheap on Prince/Small, Mining is but a 5-turn tech.

I didn't even know about that bug! I bet it happens for imperialistic leaders and settlers.

So, you kind of want workers to finish with no overflow if you are expansive, right?

Ugh, I'm going to lose out on the good EXP leaders.

I expect Serdoa to pick Pacal, Mackoti to pick Bismarck. Isabella's already taken. Sury isn't good enough to lose 4 total turns, CRE isn't as strong as FIN or EXP.

Alternatively I skip EXP and just pick a FIN leader. Mansa? Nah, while I gain 1 turn from not having any revolts, I lose more turns in the long run from expensive workers and granaries.
