Epic one Report-Malacheye

No screen shots for mine, maybe next time
I finished the game by space race victory in 2004a.d.
my score was 8443.
A few interesting things about this map...
The first unit i built was a worker. Until now, I had NEVER built a worker as my first unit. but since the first tech i researched (animal husbandry) was about the same turns to research as a worker, I decided to try it. It worked marvelously. After growing to size 3, building a settler and then mining the stone soon afterwards I built the pyramids. Gotta have the pyramids and immediately go to Republic. Another major wonder is the colossus to get that extra income. My first 3 cities were north and north east expansions in the direction of the Aztecs to get bronze, iron, crabs, fish, pigs, gold and silver.
I noticed that Aztecs or Mongols were always itching to start a fight. Playing honorably is an interesting challenge and I enjoyed it. So my strategy was to pick one of them and adopt their religion to give me extra faction to prevent war. I never adopted my own religion or built the special religion wonder. I chose the Aztecs to be my friends and therefore only had to fight the Mongols, not both of them. I used the barbarian cities in the south to stop the Mongol advance there and slowly took out the barbarians, making their cities my own. Every time the mongols declared war on me, I would take a couple of cities and make peace with them valuable. Then I let someone else wipe them out around 1900.
Until the whole continent had cities on it, my science continually went down. I think at one point for a few turns, it was at 20%. Finally by the time the continent was covered with different sized cities, my science rate began to climb. At that time I had researched markets and grocers and banks and harbors. Since the aztecs were my friends (at one time, it was +14 ) nobody else started a war with me and I could trade with everyone. I only had to build a few tanks, I didnt do any fighting at all after my Cav became obsolete. I used artillery in my last battle against the mongols, and then those just sat there and rusted as well. I was able to develop all technology until future tech 8.
Most of my Great people were builders.
I hope this report is what you are looking for, this is my first time reporting a Civ win like this. I cant wait for the next challenge!
Oh and, heh, was that comment about "no sheep for you" intended as a kind of a hint? I never found any sheep that I could harvest.

Nice game. Some screenshots would be nice next time though. Try photobucket or something like that for hosting, it's really easy to set up.

Interesting approach, it sounds like you got a lot of benefit from the early worker. I thought that I'd be able to grab a number of huts by going with a warrior and scout first, but no such luck thanks to the neighbors I had. You expanded aggressively east early on and it looked like that helped a lot, following a similar plan to what Speaker did. And then by adopting Monty's religion, you ended up with the Sirp gameplan - I still marvel that the two of you actually were, like, friends with the guy! How outrageous is that! lol

Congratulations on your win. Space in 2004? Wow. What was going on with the other AI civs - did they cripple each other with warring? Some of our players here lost the space race to an AI civ as early as the 1920s, which clearly didn't happen here. I wonder what the difference was that made your AIs so much slower? Warring would be my guess; if you have more info to share in that regard, it would be nice. smile

Sullla,
I read your civ 4 walkthrough when Civ 4 first came out and it was great. thanks for responding to my report. I will answer a few of your questions.
Yes, with that worker I built the cows and stone, where you did the wheat first. We did start on the same tile and I worked the silk for the extra commerce until the cows were "pasturized". where you went SE to stop the mongol advance, I went NE to stop the aztec advance. The resource tiles near the Aztecs appeared more desireable. I decided that the creative attribute to Louis allowed me to focus on other areas, (Pyramids) NOT to build stonehenge.
No other civ ever built a space part. They were all running in fear from Monty. I helped Monty with his first few wars. With monty on my side, It helped me to defeat Temujin and take control of the S and SE of my area. If a civ that Monty was fighting was not bordering my land, I would gift the captured city to Monty. I always stayed with Montys religion and after our relationship began to deteriorate (two big kids on the block not being able to get along forever) I would give into a demand for a tech or two in order to keep him happy. I was so far ahead of Monty in tech by the 1950's, that I could have gone to war with him and done some serious damage with modern armor and bombers, but I was never positive points with any of the other civ's who asked me to go to war with Monty, so, being Honorable, I sort of forced myself into the space race. The last hundred years was incredibly boring as all I did was accumulate wealth, build wonders, research tech and build space parts. Im pretty lucky Monty didnt win by domination or by diplomatic. His terrtory was probably 50% more than mine by game's end, but I didnt build the United nations until about 1990. No other civ got a chance to dominate, cuz me and monty would "keep them humble". I need to expand my skills a bit and do a domination or diplomatic win.
Oh, one note...does anyone else notice that biology doesnt seen to work? Allthough I got one city to 26, one to 24 , one to 23 and three to 20, I'm finding that farms on on the plains are NOT giving me that extra food.

huh Did you break the rules?
IIRC the honorable rules prevent gifting cities.

unless the city gift was back to the origional civ, IIRC

Biology works fine.
Plains - w/o farm = 1 food
Plains - w/ farm = 2 food
Plains - w/farm post Bio = 3 food

I should have explained that Americans took a couple of Monty's cities in the east and when I recaptured them, I gave them back to my ally, Monty, since it would have been almost IMPOSSIBLE to keep them from starving themselves to death. There was no other need for me to try and take american cities as we were not close by each other.

And, I couldnt see any post bio plains with three food farms. I'll check again.

I think, though, that being connected to fresh water still matters. I've not verified this (yet), though it should be pretty easy.

Plains w/o farm = 1 food
Plains - w/farm not connected to fresh water and no biology = 1 food
Plains - w/farm connected to fresh water and no biology = 2 food
Plains - w/farm not connected to fresh water with biology = 2 food
Plains - w/farm connected to fresh water with biology = 3 food

Similarly for grasslands, except they're all +1 food. Being able to trace a path of irrigation from fresh water seems to always matter.

You are probably right about the fresh water. although I think the game calls it Irrigation when it gets trasfered to tiles further away from fresh water.

well I posted what I did because of a solo game I am playing. In it I had a city completely surrounded by Plains other than 1 grassland in the fat cross that was next to a river. I was able to farm the grassland first (obviously).

Not sure which tech it is but I know that there is one that allows farms to spread irrigation. So I was then able to farm each of the tiles around the city giving each of the plains tiles 2 food.

Later I discovered Biology which made each of those 3food.
