Greetings,
Anyone up for a new PB? Starting sometime after Christmas.
No tech trading, diplomacy allowed. For diplomacy, perhaps some kind of a limitation, like X amount of emails per week?
We want to put time to the game, but not so much that it takes over our lives.
Bigger teams the better, so we don't end up with a solo player getting swamped and quitting.
Map perhaps something like PB1, a lakes map? Not symmetrical, but somewhat balanced.
Basically, overall, something a bit traditional and less gimmicky than some other PB's and PBEM's.
Some good civ play, teamwork and lighthearted competition is the goal.
Let me know if this is something you guys would like to play in. No need for definite answers yet, and all settings are up for tweaking. I'm not sure how many people are involved in the Democracy game since it's hidden. If it's like all of you, then we might not have enough players! But let's see!
List of players:
- Jowy
- Spacetyrantxenu
- Luddite
- Tasunke
Game canceled due to lack of interest.

What do you have in mind for a general feel to the game? Competitive, casual, or ????? Double move rule lawyering necessary or people play with good (clock) behavior OR ELSE?
If it's fairly low key, casual, I may be able to swing that.

Okay, here's my vision for the game: If it's too casual, then people will not do diplo, update threads etc. and the game just becomes a chore for everyone. We want players to be active, because it's really them that make the game great for both lurkers and themselves. But it won't be a super competitive game; no RB balance mod, no symmetrical map. The single biggest time sink is diplomacy. I want it to still be a factor, but not such a big one that everyone needs to spend hours each day on it. That's why I suggested a limit on it. As for double moves, we definitely need a way to not have them happen. Any suggestions?

Yeah this sounds fun. I'll play. I'd vote for a random pick, maybe with a reroll if it seems horribly unbalanced.

Okay we got three people in a week. Looking good this far, still plenty of time to sign up. I'm setting a last date for sign ups: the 28th of December. Then we will decide the rest of the settings, start working on the map, roll or pick our civs (whichever we choose). Oh and look for a host.

I won't play this no matter what, I don't have the time.
I will happily dedlurk + occasionally log in for someone though (preferably someone who updates at least once every 2 days)

Q (may I call you Q for short?), I've been meaning to ask and haven't gotten around to it yet...where did your forum handle come from? Finger spasm during registration or is there a good story to the name? Sorry if you've already answered this question elsewhere.

Sure call me Q.
No it's never come up - though I'm interested if anyone knew of their own accord (?).
When I first registered it was during the sign up period for the ISDG - before people decided they were scared of spies. Anyway, I happened to be staying with some young relatives of mine, to whom I was reading the childrens series Urgam the Axemen (by Kjartan Poskitt IIRC) now in the second book of the series (Urgam and he Seat of Flames ) the gods are trying to mutate opponents for Urgam, and hit upon combining a porcupine and a hippo ( a poppo) which doesn't turn out how they expect - this poppo is called Qgqqqqq.
As I was deciding what I would use as a name, that perculiar character occured to me. The next day I went and checked the spelling, and was rather annoyed to find it had 6 qs (I had thought only 3 after the g) still, I decided to stick with canon and registered this (rather annoying to type) username.
I've often regretted it since - particularly as my phone means I have to log in about 3 times a day, but its distinctive and unlikely to be taken.
Seriously look up Qgqqqqq on google sometime (not qqqqqq, which google tries to change it to) the first result is my RB profile.
Edit: just to add the CABLUMP!! In my sig is an actual plot device (the sound Qgqqqqq makes when thrown at a wall - yes I remember it disturbingly well ).
Jowy you might want to consider PBEM if you don't get many more sign ups.
