Epic One - Zeviz's report

Hi.

I am a new Civ player and this event was very fun for me. (Although it was a bit too time-consuming.)

I've just finished the game and the report is still in progress. (As the game progressed, I dropped the RP style and later even dropped the details, so while I have all my notes, I have a lot of editing to do.)

Part 1 of the report is here: http://www.geocities.com/zeviz2/RBEpic1/part1.html

I will update this thread when the rest of the report is done.

There is one thing that technically might have shadowed my game, although I've stayed to spirit of the rules: One time I forgot to hit save when closing the game and my latest save was from 2 turns before. I've exactly recreated all my actions in intervening turns (there was no fighting, just a couple builds starting), but technically it was an older save. I didn't even act on the information that I was beaten to Liberalism, recreating all research choices and builds as they were.

Aside from that one problem, I've never reloaded even when losing a highly experienced unit to a game UI oddity (go order into unexplored terrain was interpreted as an attack).

The outcome of the game was:
.
.
.
.
.
.
The outcome of the game was Spaceship victory in 1855, which is earlier than I've launched the other time I've won a space race, so I've done pretty well, especially considering the bad start.

I'm held in suspense to see if you went for your yellow dot or blue one. I am guessing you went for the blue dot first, which is a much less aggressive peninsula seal than most chose, but might avoid the early border tension with Genghis. Just have to wait and see!

Parts 1-4 of the report are done, which gets me about half way through the game. Part 1 was updated to fix terrible spelling and some grammar and screenshot problems. (Pasting notes made as I played directly into report wasn't a good idea. smile )

Bruindane, you can now see the answer to your question. smile
About peninsula seal, I chose the less aggressive option because my research path left me with nothing but warriors for over 3,000 years. An aggressive seal would be good only if I had military power to back it up. Another reason is that I was planning to expand later by capturing Mongol and Aztec cities, so initial land grab was less important for me than it was for pure builders.

Hi. We are going to count your game and your results, as we can certainly understand forgetting to save. However, because you reloaded from more than 1 turn back, normally this would disqualify your game from the results. For future tournament games, make sure your autosave interval is set to 1, so that you will always have an autosave to reload from.

On a happier note, congrats on what looks like the fastest space win. smile

Thank you very much for counting my game. I'll pay more attention to autosave interval in the future.

My report is finally complete: http://www.geocities.com/zeviz2/RBEpic1/part1.html (I should probably add some sort of intro and conclusion pages.) What does everybody think about it? Is it too long/too short/about right? Should I have had less details about battles and more about building and trade decisions?

I still can't believe that I have one of the fastest finishes. smile I guess it's the combination of the fact that I usually play at Prince level, so I knew what I could get away with, and beginner's luck.

PS How do people with hundreds of screenshots manage to finish your reports? (Even my 40-screenshot report took me 3 days.)

Write them early. Finish them on time.

If you wait until Closing Day to start, you have no hope. smile

(Speaking hypothetically, of course. 8) It's not like I have any personal experience in this area or anything.)

I like it very much so far! Detailed, lots of screenshots, rationalizing your decisions, very nice! Unfortunately, your site has exceeded its bandwidth limit when I tried to read the last part. frown

Nice swordsmen you have there in the end, with lots of promotions... smile

Interesting that you have founded only so few cities. You could have packed in several more if you had wanted to - but I guess with the size of your empire after the war, that had been the right decision.

Can't see a lot of luck in the first six parts, only a lot of good play! thumbsup

Thanks for nice comments. smile

Sorry about site exceeding bandwidth limit. It looks like hourly trunsfer limit on geocities is 4.2 Megs, which is smaller than the size of my report. eek Can somebody recommend a better [free] host? Meanwhile, I guess try again in an hour. frown

About starting report earlier, this Sunday my game was still in 1400s, so I didn't think I would even finish the game on time. I guess I just play too slowly for epic games. smile
