That is awesome.

The pirated version sounds much more interesting, I'd probably get that even if both were free.

Not saying piracy is right.
But I am usually less sympathetic because the damages are usually HIGHLY exaggerated.

only 6.4% of the people playing the game had bought it!!!

They know because they gave out both :P ... and I suspect could keep track of the # of downloads wink

(granted, assuming each pirate downloaded the same game onto 3 computers, then that would mean only 17.02% of the customers were legitimate .... which is larger, but still a very small proportion frown )

I'm sorry, but if 6 - 17% is the paying marketshare, then it seems a sad sad day for game developers ... especially the small ones that don't want to enforce DRM.

The problem is that you never know how many people would have actually bought the product if the pirated version wasn't available. I download quite few free iPad games just because they are free and it doesn't cost me anything to try. As soon as a game costs money, I am starting to look for a review outside the appstore to determine if it's worth it. So what I am saying: Pirated version is not equal to a lost sale.

That's really funny.

And how many have you bought after you have gotten your hands on the full (free/pirated) version?

The next logical step is to release a cracked version of the game with a nasty virus or seven.
