Imperium 36 - Gentle

This is a report on Imperium 36 gentle, which can be found here:

I won't be saying as much about this one as my extreme one though. I played the gentle version first to warm up and see how things will go in preparation for the extreme one.

Early Game
After exploring a bit, I found Sakkra to the south and Mrrshan to the west. I got into an early war with the Sakkra, but that ended fairly quickly when they sued for peace. About the only interesting thing of note was that in 2373, I noticed the Sakkra sending their ships toward me. I didn't have ships of my own to fend them off at this point because I was working on my econ, so I threatened the Sakkra to get them to retreat their ships once I make scouts. Well the Sakkra didn't take to the threats kindly and declared war on me in response. Several turns later, it turns out that the ship actually was heading past me, not at me at all:

The ship that launched a war.

Oh well. During this time, I traded a variety of techs with Mrrshan, and asked them to join me in war with Sakkra, which they accepted.

Near the end of the century, between 2390 and 2395, I colonized Gion (west rich inferno), Dolz (east ultra rich inferno), and Kulthos (east artifacts), which was a nice list of specials.

Mid Game
In 2397 or so, the Sakkra sued for peace again, and I accepted. I had been stealing from them quite a bit during this time (I tend to steal techs from races I'm at war with), but since their computer tech sucked, I continued stealing from them even though we were at peace, which is somewhat risky. However, in this case, because their computer tech sucked, I was not only able to steal from them, but also framed other races in doing so. I framed the Psilons multiple times while stealing techs like terraform 30 and soil enrichment from the Sakkra. My luck ran out in 2427 though when I stole toxic environment but they found out it was me.

So at this point, the map looked like this:

End Game
In 2441, the Alkari randomly (i.e. without provocation) declared war on me. In 2444, the Mrrshan also declared war on me; I'm not sure if their being allied with the Alkari had anything to do with it (I'm not sure if they were allied with the Alkari at this point, but they were allied previously). So at this point, after I finish up some techs, it's time to gear up for war.

My plan was to make some huge ships, and have a western one conquer the Mrrshan and their Alkari buddies, while I focus on expanding on my eastern side toward the south, to find the Psilons and the Darloks, and then decide if I wanted to go for a diplomatic or extermination win.

In 2457, I explored Vox, and confirmed that it was another radiated planet. At this point, I already knew that neither I nor the guys I was in contact with had radiated, so if the Darloks don't have radiated either, then it means that I will be going for extermination. I exterminated the Mrrshan in 2461. In the same year, I also captured Sakkra's Esper, so they declared war on me.

In 2464, I found the Darloks. It turns out they only had 1 colony and no, they didn't have radiated. So at this point, I sent my huge ships all over to kill bases and have my troops conquer each of the planets. In swift order I capture and exterminate most of the races at this point, with Sakkra exterminated in 2467 (at which point the Psilons declared war on me), Darlok and Alkari in 2470, and finally, the Psilons in 2474.

So, win in 2474 by extermination.

Impressive game! It's always neat to see that endgame map with a sea of (in this case) blue and that one flag of an alien color about to get wiped out....

Were you the first to scout Kulthos in this game, or did you only colonize it after someone else beat you to the free tech? (Also, if you were fist, what did you get?)

Oh I was first to Kulthos but I got battle computer 3 from it. Nobody had radiated, so I ended up winning this by extermination.

Intriguing. As I just mentioned elsewhere, I intended to add Controlled Rad to the player's tree, but evidently failed to do so. The Psilons and Sakkra (at least) had it in their trees, but wiping everyone out before anyone could research it was definitely a working alternative!
