Hi,

interesting how you wondered about how Rome managed to become backwards in the beginning - I had wondered the same in my game as well. Rome had a good starting location, so maybe Caesar had indeed problems with all the barbarians as you said. I find that highly ironic, that Rome of all civs suffers from barbarians! lol

I ended up chatting with Sulla about both of our games in reply to his reply to my reply to his reply to my game. (Er... Something like that!)

So look in my thread for those comments. (Wow, that reads like a shameless plug. ... Not my intent, but I'll take it!) wink

Great report, from another Master of Relgion, I really need to understand that whole concept better. I especially like your commentary on some of the key decisions, how you point out the decisions or actions that will tend to differentiate the games of the other players.

Your Southeast Corner was really the center of the action, very exciting! That area was vital for me too, but in my (mostly peaceful) game it was a cultural battle rather than live bullets. smile

I agree that heading south across the inland sea was the best route to fertile lands. And I did actually see the AI use some ships on the SE sea, Saladin landed a settler along that sea (poaching a site from me!) and ferried some reinforcments up there.

Great report. Who says turn-based games aren't as exciting as real time games?

Sulla,

Amazing report. I never even considered the fact that someone could be the tech leader throughout the entire game, given how badly in the hole I was for all of mine. Truly inspiring. I didn't settle the 2 fish spot and didn't grab the colossus nearly as early as I should have, and I also expanded too quickly I think, crippling my economy. It sure is instructive to see how differently our games played out. Thanks for the great read - I learned a lot!

The written part seems nice, but I feel kind of like I'm missing out on the full experience because I can't see the pictures. Is anyone else having this problem?

I saw the pictures fine. (In everybody's report I've read so far, actually.)

Reading your report was extremely informative, Sulla. You and I indeed have similar ideas about starting out, in regards to using that water, I didn't even come close to exploiting that to its full potential!

Also, by playing the religion/diplo game (as I pretty much ignored, to my later chagrin), you were able to get assistance against Alex's monster stacks!

thumbsup I like it!

Not that that really means much, but...

The worker first strategy- a very good idea that I'd wished I'd had much, much earlier.
