Gavagai's thread

OK, as I perceive this game as an extremely casual one, I wasn't going to report it. But I still decided to create a thread because I have a question to Q, our esteemed mapmaker:
What the fuck is this!? My island stats (including visible uncontested overseas land): 2 corn (one irrigated), two plain cows, one plain hill sheep, one grassland sheep (overseas), one dry rice, 4 fish (one overseas), 3 crabs, 3 clams, 2 copper, 1 horse, 1 gold, 1 wine, 24 grassland tiles (3 riverside, 2 overseas). Only bright thing is 11 lake tiles.
Oh, I think, I'll need to mention, for reference, that leader/civ is Qin, China. Only one real trait but this gonna be overused.

I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out. But to do this I will need to research Astronomy. And this would surely destroy my economy as it can be only Colossus-based (provided I can get the wonder but I should be able to). My point is that I don't see how this land can support competitive research rate at Renaissance and later; and I can't win this game earlier than that. If this was a normal game with competent opposition, I would say that this start (without a financial leader) is unwinnable or close to unwinnable.
It's a Big & Small map, island starts happen, and this is hardly a bad one. You have a gold double corn start, a good chunk of uncontested land and you haven't even looked at islands. Have a look at Serdoa's PB8 start and consider how close to winning he was able to come. Of course you can't launch with just this land, but you haven't even looked at what you might be able to get elsewhere and you have pretty decent hammers for an island start. There are other options for an economy as well, and conquest can be achieved without astronomy anyway.
