Dresden Files RPG Play-by-Post Planning

So, does anyone want to try another run at playing another play by post RPG on the forums here? This is borne out of talking with Mardoc and Commodore about wanting to play something inspired by the Dresden Files series.

I think that this time around, I've got a setup in mind that will be more likely to last: A game focused on smaller connected parts of a story (mysteries to solve) than one big story, so that players can drop in and out as they would like to, and a system that lends more to writing out stuff on forums than lots of numbers and battle positioning and the like.

The only main definitives that I have in mind are that it's going to be using the FATE system, which will turn the focus more towards description and writing than just raw numbers and mechanics, which I think will work better for forum play. Also, I was thinking this to be in the Modern/Urban/Mystery genre, with the supernatural thrown in there somehow too. Probably running it in a way that there are multiple mysteries going on over time, that players can drop in and out of individual ones, but they are all connected and occasionally combine into a big event as the story requires.

So I guess what I'm looking for now is who would be pretty interested in playing, and if you have any preference for system or don't care and want to play in a cool urban mystery game.

Players:
1) Commodore
2) Mardoc
3) DaveV
4) Lewwyn
5) Ranamar

If this gets off the ground like I envision, you could guest play in a round or two when you have the time.

To give more clarification about players, ideally I'd think a starting party of 4 or 5 players would be best, though I can easily make it work for you 3, and maybe take on more. As well as let others ebb in and out later.

Also, if you're wondering why i haven't pitched much story, it's cause for this system, the goal is for the GM and players to collaboratively flesh out the details of the world and characters together before we start, so I can't do much else except prep large concepts until I get a player count. smile Also since that time to get things set up doesn't have to go fast and will take some time, those who can't start immediately are in no danger of this starting fast without them.

I've played in the last two... third times the charm? Really it all comes down to the GM having availability to keep going.

So I'll play, though I've never done FATE system, I'm sure I can get up to speed quickly.

I'm pretty sure that I'll be available to keep this going. I will need a bit of a break when Baby BRick #2 comes around, but that's still 8 months away, so not a concern right now. smile

And yeah, you should be able to get up to speed with FATE pretty quickly. I'll forward you in the direction of the specific rulebook we're using when I nail down which one it'll be.
