NA Hearthstone Tournament

There seems to be some interests in having a RB tournament in the Americas server, so I thought I would try to organize one.

Format:

We will play the tournament with the Conquest format.

Conquest format explanation:

- Each player brings 3 decks from 3 different classes. No bans.
- Each game, both players select one of their remaining decks.
- The winner of a game retires the deck he won with.
- First player to win one game with each of their decks is the victor.

Why this format? It's going to be the format for Blizzcon 2015! More: http://us.battle.net/hearthstone/en/blog...-1-30-2015

Tournament Rules

- Providing 8 people sign up, players will be split into 2 groups and will play each other once.
- Assuming 4 players are in each pool. We will do a double elimination tournament.

* (Within a group with players labeled A, B, C, D) run A vs B and C vs D.
* Run winners of those matches vs each other - winner through to semis.
* Run losers of those matches vs each other - loser eliminated.
* Run remaining two players vs each other - winner through to semis (and loser eliminated).
* Semis are first winner of one group vs second winner of other group. Losers eliminated.

- The top 2 players from each pool will move onto a single elimination phase.
- You may not change the cards in your decks once the match has started.
- Dr Boom is banned.
- A tied game (one where both heroes fall to 0 health) should be replayed.
- If a player disconnects and cannot immediately rejoin, then please attempt to replay the game. If this isn't possible then try to reschedule a time to play with your opponent ASAP.
- You can spectate other players' matches and a player can stream/post vods of the games. However, spectators are forbidden to talk to the players during a match.

Prizes

What? Isn't trampling your foes beneath your Foe Reaper good enough?

If there's enough interests, we can start this off in a week or two.

Perhaps we could change the tournament format to the one where you have to win a match with every one of your decks?

Anyway, sign up.

I'm in, SevenSpirits#1972.

I would prefer a different match format, mostly because I think bans are dumb. The one Ichabod mentions is fine:

Quote:* Each player brings three decks.
* Each game, both players select one of their remaining decks.
* Decks that win can't be used again during the match.
* First player to win with all three decks wins the match.

I also like this format, which was used in some tournaments:

Quote:* Each player brings three decks labeled A, B, C.
* Match is a best of 5, i.e. first to 3 wins.
* Game 1 is A vs A. Game 2 is B vs B. Game 3 is C vs C.
* If game 4 is needed, each player chooses any of their decks for it.
* If game 5 is needed, each player chooses any of their decks for it.

And a best of 5 last hero standing with 3 decks each, no bans, would be my third choice.

I am also not a fan of the bracket structure of two groups of four, with top two per group advancing. This is because it's reasonably likely that you get 3-0 / 1-2 / 1-2 / 1-2, or 0-3 / 2-1 / 2-1 / 2-1, and then you have to go to tiebreakers which is very unsatisfying and might not even work if you're just counting games for tiebreaker.

How about plain old double elimination?

Or we could do a double elimination group format with two groups of 4, which I think is satisfying.

* (Within a group with players labeled A, B, C, D) run A vs B and C vs D.
* Run winners of those matches vs each other - winner through to semis.
* Run losers of those matches vs each other - loser eliminated.
* Run remaining two players vs each other - winner through to semis (and loser eliminated).
* Semis are first winner of one group vs second winner of other group. Losers eliminated (it's not double elim anymore).

I prefer the match formats proposed by Seven too, whichever one is fine. And I like the double elimination group format too.

That's fine with me. I will update the rules in a bit.

Although double elim is not possible if we have any number other than 4 players in a pool. In that case, we probably have to do round robin group stages.

Anyone have a problem with banning Dr.Boom?

I will play. popcorn

I wouldn't have come up with a ban on Dr. Boom and I don't think it's necessary. But I do like having some sort of variant that rewards deckbuilding creativity, and this seems like a fine one.
