Hi,

not only did you win the game, you did it with a pretty fast finish date too - congratulations! thumbsup

Would it be possible for you to post a birdseye view of your empire? I'm curious to compare everyone's dotmaps, and how much land everyone had been able to claim.

I'll try and post one later tonight.

Someone else building a settler without an escort? A lot of people were living dangerously in this Adventure! lol You are extremely lucky you didn't lose a city to the barbs. Sending out not one, but two undefended settlers? This isn't Civ3! smile

Interesting Oracle mistake. You do have to watch that to make sure you have all the prerequisites!

Odd that you met everyone with galleys. I think most people probably did it by land. The map info said that there were eight civs on two continents, so I knew from that we wouldn't be alone on an island. But maybe your way worked better! (No barbs on the water!)

War with Huayna - I wonder what provoked him. Didn't you refuse a demand from him at one point? Maybe that was it...

Despite that warring early on, you were rolling along by the middle game and even got to Liberalism quite soon. Faster than I did, in fact, although I had more techs at the bottom of the tree.

Wow, Rocketry in 1705? That's certainly very, very early! Of course, it sounds like you were missing most of the rest of the tree aside from that beeline. smile Going far down a single path and then trading to backfill other techs proved to be more effective than I thought it would be in this game. Your AIs looked to be pretty strong too and helped you out with some of the techs.

No aluminum! Well, there was some, just not very close to the starting position. wink

1894 was a very good date for the launch, faster than a lot of other players here. I'm not sure exactly what you did that was so special, since there weren't any screenshots of your empire, but it looks like you managed to trade for a lot of techs and use that to your advantage. Congratulations, not only did you get a Monarch win, you're going to be among the top finishers too! thumbsup

@Sullla - I did notice in reading the reports that there was aluminum in the game. In the game itself, I SWEAR I looked for some all over the map but did not see any. I'm not sure why. I just chalked it up to a scheming variant design - forcing us to go spaceship and editing out the aluminum. That weed could have cost me the game. Though I'm not sure I could have gotten my hands on any anyways. The only person in my world with multiples was Izzy who had 3, and she wasn't trading with me. I doubt military conquest would have been very fast for me.

But in comparison - you discovered Rocketry in 1826, the Apollo in 1844, and launched in 1876. I had Rocketry in 1705, Apollo in 1810, and launched in 1894. In looking at it, you didn't have that many techs past me before discovering Rocketry. 24 turns vs. 9 for the Apollo - much of which is the Aluminum bonus.

Ah well, I am happy with my performance.

To answer a few of your other questions / comments - I have been very unlucky with exploring warriors getting eaten by barbs. That's why it took me so long to meet people by land.

I think the key to my success was the fact that for most of the game, my entire continent (Huayna, Kublai, Roosevelt, Qin and I) were Christian, since that was the only religion around until Khan discovered Islam (the other 5 were discovered by the other continent - 2 by Spain, Judaism by India, and Conf/Tao by Germany). That let us be good buds, and trading partners even past the WFYABTA limits.

Endgame I was +15 with Qin, +12 with Roosevelt, +2 with Khan (now Muslim) and +6 with Huayna.
