Good report, and a good game for not playing a lot of Civ IV yet!
Interesting to move South before settling, most reports I've read so far moved north or settled on the spot. Writing from a hut is nice, I usually get one or two techs from huts, but generally ones I didn't really need yet. Looks like waiting for a later religion paid off, I tried for an early religion, and got it, but still ended up spreading Confucianism later, and most of the AI still hadn't adopted a religion by then either.
Looks like you had a more exciting space race than most, and playing with UN fire too! Definitely a more interesting ending than I dealt with. You lived in Interesting Times!
