So, our options:

Isabella of Native America
Saladin of Byzantium
Cathy of Portugal

Front-loading the hell out of our options would definitely be my preference, but that's really any of these. Instinctively, we're the Pro Knightrushers, so Sally seems natural...

Huh, so thinking abotu this, I think i'm leaning same as you, but I actually like all 3 of these (following will be kind of rambly, thoughts to page process here)

Isa and native america - i think this is my least favorite. I do like exp for the combination early and midgame power, markets and grocers becoming actually usable is pretty nice, but native america is very meh, some not-great bonuses to early aggression pretty much. Worth noting that the totem poll bonus would allow easy G2s cross/longbows though. smile

Catherine of Portugal is actually kind of tempting. IMP feitora's are pretty nice, it's a really solid midgame commerce boost, carracks are very nice, and Imp is a very good starting trait to get us there. Shares spi with below, playing spi sounds fun.

But then... Pro Byz. Cataphracts are nice, though tbh if a hypothetical knight rush is going to hinge on the extra point of strength then the knight rush is a bit iffy to start. I'm basically conceiving of this as "Pro leader of <useful other things>". Cataphracts, useful. Spi, cool, unplayed, useful. Hippodrome... kind of useful? Pretty cheap +2 happiness essentially (horses much more guaranteed than dyes) better happy solution than a Col or a Market anyway. Start techs suck though.

Basically I think I'm leaning "Byz if we can get away with it on the start, portugal if not", though deciding portugal outright wouldn't be inconceivable to me.

Agreed. But let's not kid ourselves. We see RtR protective, our "discussion" is basically:

I'm avoiding the tech thread until the Llamas of Drama dissipate, but as a general note Mack is welcome to our sloppy seconds.

Looking at the opponents:

TBSGJ
Genghis of Zulu
Fred of Netherlands
Augustus of Russia

It's Aggressive/Imperialistic Zulu. Duh.

OT4E
Sitting Bull of Inca
Huayna of Ethiopia
Pericles of Maya

Protective Inca, and the exactly combo piloted by the sexiest pair of players the forum has ever seen in their last brilliant victory. Duh.

Mackoti
Ramesses of Mongolia
Willem of Viking
Suleiman of France
Well Mack won't do Fin, so that's a gimmie. He's going to try to avoid these period but if forced I'd bet he keep Suleiman

[Image: images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRMpI7OqdMmFDVgTBTFh8z...lRA334CCwF]
Harry
Qin of Rome
Sury of Sumer
Washington of England
Not a sure thing, and I doubt he'll have much enthusiasm, but I'd think Sury/cheap courthouse mildly edges the Prat Boys.

2Metra
Alexander of Germany
Julius of Celtia
Boudica of India
Ew, maybe, meh. Unless Dtay's excellent PB13 really made an impression I guess Jules edges this set, but India might tip him too.

[Image: images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRLZxSNQ6cS-M6Z4tmyZCP...gw9B8Q1kQA]
REM
Peter of Holy Rome
Kublai of Aztec
Mehmed of Babylon

Huh. Well nothing is awful, but I do suspect Org's goodness will tip things.

Piindicator
Toku of Egypt
Charlie of America
Brennus of China

Wow, nice. RBmodjoao and the ever-good China...but also the BEST LEADAR EVAR. It's gotta be Toku of Egypt and oh hell this is the cheap stables with Agg version isn't it?
