PB32 - MONSTER HUNTERS
In PB32, here be monsters. You've just graduated from Monster Hunter school, with wide-eyed dreams of becoming like your hero, that guy who says "Clever girl." in Jurassic Park, and you've just gotten your first assignment from Monster Hunters Incorporated: make camp at on this crazy torus world and capture as many monsters as you can! (and also build a Civilization to stand the test of time, and all that jazz).
You can capture a monster by expanding your culture over it, simple as that. On turns 5, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 200, and 300, you're asked to post an overview shot of your civ so that we can count how many monsters you control. This info will be posted on the TopMonsterHunter.com, for all your competitors to see. And look, here's your first monster now:
Your combo is: Dreylin & Aurorarcher - Isabella (Exp/Spi) of Ethiopia
You have up to 2 rerolls, and you may lock half a combo.

Thanks Joey!
Question the first: will you be sending SIMs?
Question the Forts: will they be staying? (& is that a city ruins on the Wheat?)

First Thoughts:
Nessie! I had a great holiday with friends on Loch Ness some years ago and lived in Scotland for a couple of years, so I think some sort of Scotish theme will be required.
I love me some EXP!
SPI less so, although RtR does have an abundance of good Civics to choose from.
Oromo = good (made thorough use of Muskets in PB28)
Stele = awful (I'm a bit surprised that Krill never souped up their UB)
Hunting/Mining = generically good starting techs, but not sure they are ideal for this start.
Definitely need Agri available for the Worker, but movement is hard to get from resource to resource. I'm thinking early Wheel would help (somewhat) with that.
I'm thinking of ditching Ethiopia, and pending Tech Thread consensus maybe keeping Isabella.
Also, Torusland is a weird mapscript as far as water is concerned. I'm not thrilled about 3x Freshwater lakes at the Capital, but there doesn't seem to be an obvious good way to move away from them without sacrificing a lot. At least probably everyone's in the same situation with that.

I was going to ask similar questions. That fort is some pillage gold if it stays, right? Those jungled mountais are amusing, too.
Some questions Dreylin as I haven't followed the tech thread all that closely.
1) Is this RtR 3.0.0.5?
2) What's the point of monsters? To get a rough idea how good everyone is doing?
Also, what kind of a game did you have in mind? Just a rough idea is fine if you haven't thought of any yet. How do you like Ethiopia (Mining, Hunting) or Isabella? I'm not a huge fan of SPI but I guess if it were to stay then we should go for the religion route early to build those cheap temples, etc. ? This is where Mining/Hunting don't really help at all as we'd be better off to start with Mysticism. Also Ethiopian's unique building is kind of meh to me. Of course rerolling can give us something even worse, but we can do that twice at least.

Heh, crossposts are always fun.
1) The Tech Thread discussions identified a couple of concerns with v3 that border on bugs, and a general perception of shark-jumping from some of the changes meant we dialed back to v2.7.6.
2) Monsters are a little bit of added flavour IMO, but yeah they could be an expansion measure in a game with limited other information.
The Forts can be pillaged for Gold unless I improve over them before I get a Warrior out to do that. It seems unlikely that will be a problem, though, with 2x grains to improve first. It's quite a good start for EXP, since I can work either the Sheep or Deer for the EXP bonus + added Commerce (after borders pop).

Ah, sorry to be mean, but your wheat will not be irrigated, that corn was a mistake, and you won't be on a lake. Sorry, rushed it a bit last night, and I had to move some stuff near your start that I didn't notice late at night. The forts and city ruins are staying, yes. You can either raze them or just put new improvements over them.

So I get a re-roll on the start as well!
Can I get a replacement screenshot just to make sure I'm thinking of this right?
