[spoilers] dcodea's first RB game

Finding it very strange to not be allowed to read the lurker threads.

Well you're not supposed to get any info on anything the other players have said or plan to do, and we lurkers would like a place to discuss what we've read from the various threads

Checking in, guess I'll be ded-lurking for a while. smile

Yeah, that thread's going to sit there and tempt you all game!

Yes, I expect to find the proliferation of posts I cannot read to be vexing! But perhaps I will have a greater appreciation for them after the fact, when I read them knowing my own position and the eventual outcome of the game.

In terms of my goals for this game, they are as follows:

1. Effectively participate. I haven't used Pitboss or tried to take screenshots and keep a thread updated before, so if I can manage to do that with tripping over myself, I will have won half the battle. I have downloaded and played a few test games with the RtR mod we will be using, and I updated my hosts file to use Pitboss - anything I need to do there? I also recall reading a helpful post somewhere on the mechanics of easily taking and organizing screenshots while playing. I'll try to find that and figure it out before we get started.

2. Effectively play. I don't really have any great ideas or intentions as to how I'll be playing - I sort of expect that my play won't be good enough to win any races or execute any grand battle plans, so my real goal will be to hang around, and hopefully not be too much of a pushover to throw the game. That said, I'm sure MP play is quite different in execution that SP play, so I won't really know if I'm achieving this goal until it's too late!

tiles in the fat cross of the settler won't change

The US Surgeon general highly recommends not fog gazing.

Neato. I guess settle in place? As far as leader picks, fishing seems not valuable. A fair amount of river tiles. Cows and Sheep are both hunting techs in RtR, right? Need to check that.

So, what were your thoughts behind Joao of Khmer?

Well, it was a couple things. From people's picks it seems like organized and expansive were highly valued - I think almost no one went financial. So I was trying to pick an expansive civ, and it seemed like of the picks on the board, picking Joao and trying for a real REX start made the most sense. For Khmer, it was mostly about the starting techs - hunting is useful in RtR, with two hunting resources in the starting cross, seemed to make sense. Mining, to go for bronze working right after agriculture. The ballista elephant is sort of an afterthought, but at least comes early enough to be possibly useful.

That was my thinking, anyway!

Bare in mind people like to play different setups, and not be tied to one trait being fin!

One thing I would say as you are unfamiliar with the mod is check out where civics have moved and the changes that have been made to them.
