Btw, I'm going to be on the road for the next five hours, so if you guys really really need Civstats soon, send all your gold to Brick, Grimace, HAK, or Caledorn.

Rego triple -- To whoever sets up Civstats, I have the server side ready except for entering in the game ID into the CivStatsUploader.ini file. All you need to do is replace XXXX with the 4 digits after you register the game on Civstats. Thanks!
Edit: And then launch the desktop shortcut.

I managed to log into the game. Everything seemed just fine, except the civ colors are pretty random.
I know this is a worldbuilder thing, just want to see whether people want to have the proper civ colors or just go with what they got.
It doesn't matter too much to me either way.

Thanks xenu.

So, a stupid (but probably important) question. I've never played in or opened a Pitboss save before. Where do I need to go or what do I need to do to log in?

1) Open Civ IV
2) Load up the right mod (you can set up a shortcut to do both of these at the same time)
3) Select Multiplayer - Pitboss
4) Enter server location (in red, above) and change login name (if appropriate), press Next (or whatever it is in the bottom right)
It should then connect to the game portal and give you the list of civs.
5) Select your civ (*Note, be careful here not to get the wrong one!) and then Next again
6) Then it should ask you to set a password for that civ (*Note, write it down somewhere now!)
Then it should download the save and link you to the game.
You will also want to read this and implement so that you can play nice with others who want to log in at the same time (although this does not always work)

Access the game via DirectIP connection to pitboss.watto.no:2059. Make sure you have the right mod loaded. (Make sure your mod folder is not in MyGames). No password is needed (nor will one permit a successful connection) when connecting to the game. Make 100% sure there are no spaces in the field or you'll get an error. Spaces love to crop up unexpectedly, so please double-check this before posting that you can't connect.
The first time a player logs into the game they will be asked to set and confirm a password. This is non-trivial to change, so please make sure you know what it is, can remember it, etc.
In-game you can play as normal. This game is played via simultaneous turns, so you can queue unit actions and builds like normal, even after you end turn. When you're done playing please log out via Exit to Main Menu, not Exit to Desktop (which can create connectivity/lag issues).

when I first made the map I did it with a bunch of random civs and when i edited the right ones in i was too lazy to change the colors back

Ideally edit it into your first post so that if you go AWOL someone can take over.

In case anyone else new to MP Civ 4 has the same issues I did:
I kept crashing out after connecting with a lightning-fast popup to the effect of "the save has been locked to prevent modified assets," which I was pretty sure meant the mod wasn't working properly. Gawdzak posted upthread that you should make sure your mod folder isn't in MyGames -- I should have taken him more literally. After several trials, I determined that:
1) The mod has to be in the Program Files\...\Sid Meier's Civilization IV Beyond the Sword\Beyond the Sword\Mods folder. There is also a Program Files\...\Sid Meier's Civilization IV Beyond the Sword\Mods folder. It is a trap and will not work.
2) The mod needs to not be in the My Games\beyond the sword\Mods folder at all. Having it in both places didn't work, despite being identical folders. I'm not saying it's the fault of witches, but I think it might be the fault of witches.
After many cycles of crashing out and restarting Civ, everything is now fine. Thank you xenu for the host, and thank you greenline and all those who provided feedback for the map!
