CIV 4 Mac won't load in a wineskin, freezes on voice/mp init. EDIT: FIX ADDED

I've been trying to configure a civ4 setup with the RTR mod installed. I've gotten then wineskin setup and have opened the game one time but I can't get in to the game to check the mod's installation.

The game seems to be failing to load once it gets to the voice/mp init segment of the load. Any ideas on that front?

What other information can I provide to help with debugging? I'll get that information tonight.

EDIT:

Here are the fixes:

1. Loading CIV4 BTS in the most recent (steamworks play) version will take a long time. Make sure that you're using the "BETA/Original Release" version of Civ4 BTS to ensure you can create a Direct IP connnection. Instructions here: http://support.2k.com/hc/en-us/articles/...d-on-Steam. Original release will load quickly.

2. Install the RTR mod into the correct Civ Mods folder in the emulated steam folder. This is the Beyond the Sword folder inside the Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Beyond the Sword folder. You should see the other mods that you can load at game launch.

3. Be patient. You're emulating the game. It will take longer.

Does the game work without the mod being loaded?

It did the first time; I will give it a try after removing all mod files from the /Mods/ folder as one of my debugging steps.

Are you running the windows CD version or the Steam version on wineskin? And is it hanging on the normal initialisation of Civ 4, or when the game restarts after you select a mod?

Steam version.

As far as I can tell: normal initialization of Civ 4. Haven't been able to get in and select the mod.

Hmm..you might want to delete the civ installation and redownload civ iv from steam if clearing the mod folder fails.

So I don't know if this is relevant to an emulated version: do you have a /Mods/ folder under My Documents like on a Windows machine (next to your saved games and such)? If you do, it's a trap, you want the /Mods/ folder that's among the program files instead.

Update:

I had installed the mod under CIV4/Mods/ directory on the windows VM. After I removed the mod, the game still wouldn't load.

Going to try rebooting (again) and reinstalling if that doesn't work.

Got it to boot with and without the mod. It's emulating everything so patience would appear to be the watchword.

However, once I've gotten it to boot with the mod, I'm unable to select RTR 2.7.0.4 as a mod in the "Load a Mod" screen...

I've got the mod in the virtual directory under Sid Meir's Civ 4, alongside Desert War, etc. That would appear to be the correct place, right?

EDIT: Looks like I might have the wrong directory. Standby.

EDIT: You need to place the mod into the correct folder. Inside BTS x2 in the steam files. If only I could read the internet...

I did point out that specific issue in the PB34 Tech Thread :P

Glad you got it working!
