Welcome aboard, Charriu! I reread my 38 thread, and my plan is to not waste so much time boring people with scouting updates and hopefully channel that energy into micro plans. A second set of eyes is very welcome.

I delved deep into micro plan territory in my PB40, so I'm happy to review your plans.

Glad for the help.

Since it looks like the game setup is racing along, I better start thinking out loud. I've already spent way too long on a trait analysis here. The gist is that since I can't promise to make it to late game, we need civs/leaders that help us survive early. I won't redo that list, since I stand by it, although somethings could stand to be changed. (I've come to think that Ind's half-priced forges is a very good bonus, e.g.)

The two traits I actively dislike are Exp and Fin. (On Exp, at least, no less an authority than TBS seems to agree with me.) Fin I think is an okayish trait, but it certainly isn't early, and Big and Small has plenty of rivers. I'm still not ruling Exp and Fin out completely just because there will likely be significant amounts of coastline, which make Fin and Exp (workboat bonus) relevant. Still, I won't be happy if forced to pick them. I also would prefer not to play Imp this game. It's my favorite trait, and if possible, I'd play it every game until the cows come home. Because of that, however, I should probably try something new. If the choice is between something bad and something with Imp, I'll obviously pick Imp. Lastly, I want to keep my eyes peeled for Charismatic. I think it's going to be a great trait on this map, since I think natural maps are a little more happy squeezed than handcrafted ones.

(After I wrote that, I realized that Imp on a crowded map (169 tiles per player) is really solid. Those 33 hammers you save are like two warriors for securing the border. (Not really, because settlers use foodhammers, but you get my point.) Boy am I addicted to Imp.)

I realize my pick list is somewhat different from yours in 40, Charriu. It looks like we're going to get starting screenshots in the next 48 hours, so we can start making the choices concrete.

I'll also be doing a tier list once the pick phase is over, and I recommend you do too! If one tier list is great for page views, two tier lists must be even better.  dancing

Don't forget that this PB has considerably less players and a smaller map then PB38, which can push traits a bit around.

Good point in trying something new. It widens the horizon. I agree that Charismatic could be a bit better on regular maps compared to lush maps you tend to see on some PBs here (PB39)

I'm by no means the last authority when it comes to traits, but I will be happy to outline my tier list.

What about the fog and the tiles outside the BFC. Are they gonna change?

Should not change at this point. Not planning to change anything at all about the map except the civs and leaders, but outside of what you see you have to scout for.

Thanks, Mardoc. And thanks,Krill for rolling the map.

What're your thoughts, Charriu? I'll try to build a sim later this evening (GMT-4). Immediate thought is re-roll England (not a final choice!). I trust the veteran consensus about the work boat change in RtR 2.0.8.5, but I can't help but feel that it makes seafood starts viable at the expense of nerfing fishing-tech civs into the ground. As for leaders, Suleiman has just had his day in the sun with Mack in pb38, so he's obviously strong. Plus, it would force me to get better with Phi, but it runs headfirst into my self-imposed soft ban on Imp. On the other hand, the forested ivory and large number of forests makes Imp really appealing. I think I like Suryavarman. Exp is a 9 turn worker here I think, which is nuts. But I'll have to sim to see if that speed advantage (3 turns over non-Exp) actually translates to anything. Creative is golden on this small map.
