If this is some sort of San Francisco joke, this hits closer to home than I'd care to admit.
More people have been to Berlin than I have.

I know the urine smell is more ubiquitous, but the feces are more notable when you hit 'em.

I see a lot of people complaining about boredom, but if anything I've been busier in this time...NASA work is extremely homeoffice-friendly, the kids have needed a lot more attention than usual due to not being able to hang with friends, and the good weather means it's been time to work on the new house's exterior a lot more. So...I won't be spamming this. My telecon just had the dreaded "well they can't kick us out of the conference room, so why don't we drill down..." call though, so here yah go:

Threat List, People I least Want to Border:
Superdeath - Neighbor ruining Superdeath is always going to ruin *some* neighbor's day with his kamikaze, hope it won't be mine.
Hitru (Finarry)- These guys are really good. They can maintain a peaceful border, but they're always going to be looking for opportunities.
Cornflakes - He's not bad at all, is Cornflakes, and has definitely prosecuted some nice and successful wars. Not insanely aggressive, though.
Elkad - This guy almost wrecked my best game ever, getting attacked by GermanJoey in PB25 before he could hit us in our expansion lands. Definitely not passive.
Miguelito - Green, but I recall his one game played he did some nice fighting.
Raskolnikov- Newbies are always dangerous in a "rabid puppy" potential way, and Rusten means Rask here will have solid advice.
Mr.Cairo - Passive dude who would rather build than fight.
Ruff_Hi - Inattentive guy a lot of the time, alas.

Threat List, People to Win:
Hitru (Finarry)- These guys are really good. Hitru might be the best player on the forum, actually, and his Fintourist puppet is wise.
Cornflakes - He's not bad at all, is Cornflakes, and has definitely prosecuted some nice and successful wars. Not insanely aggressive, though.
Mr.Cairo - Passive dude who would rather build than fight. He's a good builder, though.
Elkad - This guy ain't bad, just don't know what his main superpower is.
Miguelito - Green, but I recall his one game played he did some nice fighting.
Superdeath - Neighbor ruining Superdeath is always going to ruin *his own* day with his kamikaze.
Raskolnikov- Newbies are always dangerous in a "rabid puppy" potential way, and Rusten means Rask here will have solid advice.
Ruff_Hi - Inattentive guy a lot of the time, alas.

Starting screen:

The fog and corner (i.e. non-BFC) tiles might possibly still change, but should actually be at least roughly accurate at this point.

Let me know in the tech thread if the image isn't visible or something. I won't be reading players' threads until I'm finished with the rest of the map: I actually asked a non-civ playing, non-forum member friend randomize the starting images and am posting them without looking at them to be sure knowledge of different players won't influence the way I try to balance things. That's probably more extreme than necessary, but I'll also enjoy the surprise when the map is fully finished and I finally find out which screens are whose!

Thanks Iron Referee.

That is a gorgeous capital site. Ridiculously food-high, well watered, automatically hooks up to the cottage helper sites. Either Agriculture or Mining gets up to speed nice and fast. Nice compensation for the kind of icky first place in the Snake Pick; as balanced as everything is at this point I'd rather have synergy. Let's look at what I want from this site: Chm for whipping all this food, Pro to go along with early pottery, !not Fin (only three capital tiles that benefit), maybe Exp or Imp with early whips. Not impressed with Phi (not working cottages is a mistake), Org (promised a smaller-side map) or Spi (feels like a "stay in caste" setup). Aggressive and Creative are both okay, with the right civ.

My method of picking here is going to list desired civs and desired leaders; if one has nine entries (or fewer but some I don't think get picked) while the other has fewer, then pick from the fewer...

Leaders:
Chm/Pro - Churchill
Chm/Imp - Cyrus
Pro/Imp - Charlemagne
Chm/Exp - Washington
Pro/Exp - Mao
Chm/Cre -Kublai Khan
Pro/Cre - Giggles
Pro/Agg - Tokugawa*
Chm/Agg - Boadicea*

Civilizations:
India - Obviates Pro, elevates Agg
America - Wants Agg
China - Techs and Chucks
Arabia - Obviates Cre, religion game fun, nice UU
Japan - Likes Exp, Agg. Painful techs.
Ethiopia - Weird bulb fun...

Interesting. Looks like the balancing of the civs has hit the point of me...not being very keen on a lot of them. If I take India, that's cool stuff, but it cuts five leaders from my list, and I'm not sure that an Engineering beeline is wise vs. just going whole hog on knights or horse archers. I feel like this game is won with a tight horse beeline, else a fast-mover of some other kind. America is nice and simple, and with Chm that's a whole host of units that are now 2-movers, but that's not effortless. China is a gimmie, a tight beeline for Chuck with Agg nets a pretty solid 2-moving horror stacks, but I've done that. Arabia is kind of nice for culture wars and camels are solid, but...eh. Now Samurai beelines...argh, if only Japan had techs I gave a damn about.

I hope this game ends better for you than the Niners' last game did.
