Imperium 29 - Beyond the Dreams

Imperia

Sponsor: RefSteel
Opening Date: Monday, May 31, 2010
Duration: Four Weeks
Map Generation: Random (Unedited except as noted below)

Race: Sakkra
Difficulty: Impossible (But see below!)
Galaxy Size: Medium
Opponents: Five
Color: Yellow (The color of gold!)
Events: None (Turned off in the save file)

Scenario: Most races of the galaxy are ruled by members of their own kind, and so it is with the lizards: It just happens that the Sakkra are led by a truly ENORMOUS lizard ... who happens to fly and breathe fire! The Sakkra emperor known as RBO-29 is an honest-to-Tiamat dragon, who has spent the past 2.3 millenia amassing the most impossible hoard of wealth ever seen or imagined!

With no less than ten million BC already in the treasury, RBO-29 now has only two goals: To rule the galaxy ... and to amass still MORE wealth in so doing! After all, a dragon's lust for wealth only grows with its fulfillment; the Sakkra's can only be imagined, as they wallow in wealth beyond the dreams of avarice.

Variant Rules: None per se (apart from avoiding restricted exploits) - this variant is based entirely on the scoring system.

Scoring: This event has custom scoring. SCORING IS OPTIONAL. You are not required to track your scoring if you prefer not to do so. Your score is equal to the total value of your treasury (Planetary Reserve) in the year 2400, plus whichever is LOWER: The amount in your treasury in the year 2500, or the amount in your treasury when you finish the game.

If you win the game before 2500, assume the final value of your treasury is the same as it would have been in 2500. If you win before 2400, assume your final treasury would have remained the same through 2400 and 2500. If you fail to achieve an in-game victory, the final value of your treasury is considered ZERO, but you may still record your 2400 treasury as your total score.

Notes: Because of the game's interface, transfers from your treasury to any of your worlds will be in increments of roughly 200,000BC(!) - meaning that transferring any funds to a planet will pretty much keep its production doubled for the remainder of the game. It will also reduce your treasury by more than can possibly be made up by 2500, never mind 2400.

This game should be much, much easier than a normal Impossible game for anyone who chooses to transfer funds from the reserve to one or more planets. If you're not used to playing at this difficulty, don't be scared off; this should provide a decent introduction to the rate at which the AI progresses (and the types of defenses they construct) throughout an Impossible game, while allowing you to keep up and then some, especially if you do so early on. At the same time, it is hoped that the game will provide an interesting but not overwhelmingly challenge for veterans of Impossible difficulty, as players seeking the highest score will be playing under the de-facto variant rule, "No transferring funds from the reserves, ever, throughout the game!"

Closing Date: Monday, June 28, 2010. Reports due by the end of Tuesday, June 29, your local time.
