Name: It'd be nice to have "Darth" in it.
Well, as hard as it is to believe, I recently decided to play a Jedi variant, to see if it was all that interesting. Amazingly enough, it turns out to be pretty fun to look at when I read it on Charis' page. I read it a couple of times, but there seems to be a flaw. There are no Dark Jedi? Well that's no fun. Seems to me it would be possible. Well, I think it would be a little like this...
It seems that this variant works directly with Charis' variant, but it changes in various places. For complete rules, combine these with Charis' Jedi rules. When rules conflict, refer to the Dark Jedi rules.
A Dark Jedi does not go in search of the Dark Side, but rather, the Dark Side comes after him, and turns him to the more powerful side of the Force. Only one who has apprenticed under a Dark Jedi may turn into a Dark Jedi from the beginning, for that is the only way to start as a Dark Jedi.
The Dark Jedi plays well with all of the warriors that brave the depths of the dungeons, but the Dark Jedi does not play well with other Jedi. Specifically Jedi of the light. A Dark Jedi may not help or be helped by a Jedi that is not Dark. A Dark Jedi may challenge a Jedi of the Light to a duel, but is forbidden to use any of their Force Lightning powers, for the Light side does not know of them, and should they know they may discover a power of their own. Ignorant fools. All in all, it would be best if the Dark Jedi just left a game if a regular Jedi is in there.
The Dark Jedi do like going to town, for they often bring fear to the normal townspeople. Especially in the likes of Cain, who is said to be the Jedi Master of the Light. He can do nothing against you, so you test his power by having him identify that which you could easily do yourself. Along with Cain, a Dark Jedi also do not visit Pepin. He uses powers not familiar to Dark Jedi's, and therefore they do not go near him. Dark Jedi's prefer Adria, who uses Dark forces of her own.
Armor
Up to and including studded leather. Cursed, only if 'of corruption', which you need to search for, and when you get an 'of corruption' armor, it is the only one you carry, even if you can't wear it.
Jewelry
Your first and primary jewel hunt, after you have turned, is anything to do with the dark. Amulet, Ring, whatever. You are a Dark Jedi, you need dark items.
Shields
The Dark Jedi does not need the use of a shield. Only the weakling Light Jedi need shields.
Weapons
All the same as a normal Jedi (Charis' version). Vader used a lightsabre, so do we. It is still the primary quest, ebcause you still need it to become one with the Emperor. One difference between the Light and Dark Jedi is that there is a double bladed lightsabre. It would be a staff of lightning (or Lightning prefix), and is the only other weapon that a Dark Jedi can use.
Uniques
Any that are dark and gloomy.
Telekinesis, Teleport, Town Portal, Healing, Phasing, Stone Curse, Mana Shield.
Once you have completed some of the quests, you gain the use of Force Lightning. As that power grows, you only use the most powerful of all Force Lightning spells.
All scrolls may be used.
1) The Search for the Dark Side
To be turned to the Dark Side, a young Jedi needs only to find an item of corruption, and wish to become a Dark Jedi.
2) The Mastery of the Dark Side
You are still a fledgling to these powers, but somehow you must know that they are useful to you and, and that they will gow as you do, depending on how much you try to gain control. You dive into the Church, seeking answers to your questions. You find the answer in one man: The Butcher. Kill the Butcher, without killing another creature on dlvl 2, and kill the Butcher in his own room, with only your sword. Afterwards, drop all items (or pack them away for safe keeping) and fight your way through this level naked, feeling the force. You discover a new power, a fledgling one that is just beginning: Force Lightning. At first, it comes in small bolts that travel away, but you know it will grow. Gains the title of: Lord of the Sith
3) To Gain the Emperor's Praise
You seek to be the Emperor's favorite creature, loving in the fact that you are the one he favors the most. To do so, you must get rid of the opposition. You must kill all challengers to this title. Kill the Butcher with your Force Lightning. Kill the skeleton Leoric with nothing but a normal Sabre. Kill all of the creatures on 15, saving Laz for last, for he is favoured most in the eyes of the Emperor, and then kill Laz, kill him with all your hatred, for only hatred will lead you to your future, as the Emperor's Apprentice. Upon killing Laz, you gain more power, and your lightning grows to straight lines of lightning that you shoot from your fingertips.
4) To Become the Emperor
You have all the power, you are stronger than the Emperor himself, and you have decided it is now time to take your place beside him. Cleanse 16 of all but the Emperor himself, never retreating to town, then face the Emperor, and use all your Force tricks to take him down. You will now rein as Emperor, destroyer of all. Your lightning now shoots all around you (CL), and you move onto your next challenge.
5) Apprentice to the Emperor
A Dark Jedi may choose to take an apprentice. He may, but does not have to. If an apprentice is searching for a master, he may use any means to find one, though the Dark Jedi he finds is the one who decides on his training. When his training is complete, the apprentice gives a gift to his master: his own ear. In return, the mater gives two gifts to the fledgling Dark Jedi: a ring of the dark, and a book of charged bolt. Now, the young one may continue his journey.
